Solutions:
(1 – 5):
1). d)x = 5940 - (960 + 360 + 1320) = 3300
k + z = 5640 - (1320 + 360) = 3960 ......(i)
k + y = 5820 - (360 + 960) = 4500 ....(ii)
(k + y + z) = 12000 - (3300 + 960 + 1320 + 360) = 6060 ......(iii)
Adding eq (i) and (ii) and subtracting (iii) from the sum, we get
k = 4500 + 3960 - 6060 = 2400
∴ y = 4500 - 2400 = 2100
z = 3960 - 2400 = 1560
2). b)x = 5940 - (960 + 360 + 1320) = 3300
k + z = 5640 - (1320 + 360) = 3930 .....(i)
k + y = 5820 - (360 + 960) = 4500 ......(ii)
(k + y + z) = 12000 - (3300 + 960 + 1320 + 360) = 6060 ......(iii)
adding eq (i) and (ii) and subtracting (iii) from the sum, we get
k = 4500 + 3960 - 6060 = 2400
∴ y =4500 - 2400 = 2100
z = 3960 - 2400 = 1560
3). d)Ratio = 2100/3300 = 7/11
4). b) Number of people reading exactly one newspaper = 3300 + 2100 + 1560 = 6960
Number of people reading Times of India = 5940
∴ Diff = 6960 - 5940 = 1020
5). d)Number of people reading to newspaper = 960 + 1320 + 2400 = 4680
∴ Reqd% = 4680/12000 x 100 = 39%
