Quantitative Aptitude Quiz For IBPS PO/Clerk Prelims

Numerical Ability or Quantitative Aptitude Section has given heebie-jeebies to the aspirants when they appear for a banking examination. As the level of every other section is only getting complex and convoluted, there is no doubt that this section, too, makes your blood run cold. The questions asked in this section are calculative and very time-consuming. But once dealt with proper strategy, speed, and accuracy, this section can get you the maximum marks in the examination. Following is the Quantitative Aptitude quiz to help you practice with the best of latest pattern questions.

Q1. An inlet pipe can fill a tank in 8 hours and an outlet can empty the same tank in 40 hours, working individually. How many minimum additional numbers of outlet pipes of the same capacity are required to be opened, so that the tank never overflows?
6
4
8
7
9
Solution:

Q2. A tank holds 100 gallons of water. Its inlet is 7 inches in diameter and fills the tank at 5 galloons/min. The outlet of the tank is twice the diameter of the inlet. How many minutes will it take to empty the tank if the inlet is shut off, when the tank is full and the outlet is opened? (Hint: Rate of filling or emptying is directly proportional to the diameter).
7.14 min
10.0 min
10.7 min
5.0 min
11.5 min
Solution:
Since rate of flow is proportional to Diameter
∴ Outlet rate of flow = 2 × 5
= 10 gallons/min
Time taken by outlet Pipe to empty the tank
=100/10=10 min

Q3. Three pipes A, B and C can fill a tank in 15 minutes, 20 minutes and 30 minutes respectively. All three pipes started to fill the tank at same time. The pipe C is closed 6 minutes before the tank is filled. In what time the tank will be full?
6 minutes
8 minutes
12 minutes
14 minutes
None of these
Solution:

Q4. Two pipes X and Y can fill an empty tank in 16 and 24 hours respectively. Ravi opens these two pipes simultaneously. After 8/3 hours he comes back and sees that there was a leak in the tank. He stops the leakage and thus tank took 48/5 hours to be filled completely after closing the leak. In what time leakage will empty the filled tank ?
6.9 hrs
9.6 hrs
8.4 hrs
8.4 hrs
None of these
Solution:

Q5. One fill pipe A is 3 times faster than second fill pipe B and takes 32 minutes less than the fill pipe B. When will the cistern be full if both pipes are opened together?
12 minutes
24 minutes
30 minutes
Data inadequate
None of these
Solution:

Q6. A cistern has two inlet taps (which fill it in 12 minutes and 15 minutes, respectively) and an exhaust tap. When all the three taps are opened together, it takes 20 minutes to fill an empty cistern. How long will the exhaust tap take to empty it?
20 minutes
16 minutes
12 minutes
10 minutes
14 minutes
Solution:

Q7. A tank is 7 m long and 4 m wide. At what speed should water run through a rectangular pipe 5 cm broad and 4 cm deep so that in 6 hours and 18 minutes, water level in the tank rises by 4.5 m ?
12 kmph
10 kmph
14 kmph
18 kmph
None of these
Solution:

Q8. Two pipes can fill a tank in 10 hours and 16 hours respectively. A third pipe can empty the tank in 32 hours. If all the three pipes are opened simultaneously then in how much time the tank will be full? (in hours)
Solution:

Q9. Three filling pipes P, Q and R can fill an empty tank in 16 hr, 24 hr and 32 hr respectively. They start felling together the tank. After 4 hours pipe R gets closed and other two pipes continue to fill the tank. What is the total time the tank will be filled?
8.4 hr
7.2 hr
9.4 hr
6.4 hr
8 hr
Solution:

Q10. Two pipes can fill a tank in 15 hours and 20 hours respectively, while the third pipes can empty it in 30 hours. If all the pipes are opened simultaneously, the empty tank will be filled in
10 hours
12 hours
15 hours
31/2 hours
17 hours
Solution:

Q11. Two filling pipes A and B can fill a tank separately with the rate of 50 m³/min and 70 m³/min respectively. There is a leakage in the bottom of the tank which working efficiency is 30% less than the efficiency of pipe A. If capacity of tank is 7000 m³, then in how much time the tank will be filled if all the three (both filling pipes and leak) start performing simultaneously?
Solution:

Q12. There is a hole in a water tank which can empty it in 8 hours. A pipe is opened which fills 6 litre water per minute in tank and now tank is emptied in 12 hours. What is the capacity of the tank?
8260 litre
8660 litre
8640 litre
8620 litres
8460 litres
Solution:

Solution:

Q14. 171.995 × 14.995 ÷ 25 = ?
103
115
110
125
118
Solution:
? ≃ 172 × 15 ÷ 25
≃ 103
