News Editorial 1: India to be the 11th wealthiest, says BCG

India’s personal financial wealth, currently estimated to be about $3 trillion, is expected to grow to $5 trillion by 2022 making India the 11th wealthiest nation, according to a report from the Boston Consultancy Group (BCG). According to the report, India is currently the fifth largest Asian market in terms of number of (1) affluent (wealthy, rich, prosperous) high net worth and ultrahigh net worth individuals. The total number of such individuals was (2) pegged (fixed, set, hold) at 4.13 lakh in 2017. In terms of asset classes, almost 60% or $121.6 trillion of the global wealth was in the form of investible (3) assets (property, resources, estate) such as equities, investment funds, currency, deposits and bonds with the remaining 40% or $80.3 trillion in low-liquidity assets such as life insurance, pension funds and (4) equity (valuation, ownership, rights) in unlisted companies. The overall growth of global personal wealth continued its (5) momentum (encouragement, impetus, impulse) in 2017.

News Editorial 2: Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga claims India’s first Youth Olympics gold

Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga (6) notched up (to win something) India’s (7) maiden (first, initial, inaugural) gold medal at the Youth Olympics, claiming the top honours in the men’s 62 kg category here.The 15-year-old from Aizwal, who is also a world youth silver-medallist, lifted a total of 274 kg (124 kg +150 kg) to finish on top in the Argentine capital on Monday night.The silver medal went to Turkey’s Toptas Caner, who lifted 263 kg (122 kg + 141 kg), while Colombia’s Villar Estiven Jose took the bronze with an effort of 260 kg (115 kg + 143 kg). The Mizoram (8) sensation (buzz, craze, enthusiasm) who will turn 16 on October 26, is being (9) touted (glorified, trumpeted, acclaimed) as the next big name in Indian weightlifting. Earlier this year, Lalrinnunga claimed a silver (youth) and a bronze (junior) in the Asian Championships, (10) smashing (knocking, striking, overthrowing) two national records in the process.

1. AFFLUENT (adjective)  धनी

2. PEG (verb)   स्थिर रखना
Meaning: fix (a price, rate, or amount) at a particular level.
Synonyms: fix, set, hold, control, freeze, limit, categorize, class, classify, codify, distinguish, distribute, grade, group, place, range, rank, relegate.
Antonyms: disarrange, jumble, lump, mix up, scramble, misclassify, missort, mistype.

3. ASSET (noun)  संपत्ति
Meaning: an item of property owned by a person or company, regarded as having value and available to meet debts, commitments, or legacies.
Synonyms: property, resources, estate, holdings, possessions, effects, goods, valuables, belongings, chattels, capital, funds, money, riches, means, finance.
Antonyms: debts, liabilities, indebtedness

4. EQUITY (noun)  सामान्य शेयर
Meaning: the value of the shares issued by a company.
Synonyms: value, worth, valuation, ownership, rights, proprietorship, capital, proportion, benefit, code, asset.
Antonyms: disproportion, debt.

5. MOMENTUM (noun)  गति
Meaning: the force or speed of an object in motion, or the increase in the rate of development of a process.
Synonyms: boost, encouragement, goad, impetus, impulse, incentive, incitation, instigation, motivation, provocation, spur, stimulant.
Antonyms: impediment, inaction, ebb, standstill, deflation, brake, retreat, immobility.

6. NOTCH UP (phrasal verb)  जीत दर्ज करना
Meaning: to win something, or to achieve something.
Usage: The company notched up over £10 million in profits last year.

7. MAIDEN (adjective) प्रथम
Meaning: being or involving the first attempt or act of its kind.
Synonyms: first, initial, inaugural, introductory, initiatory, foremost, headmost, inaugural, leadoff, premier, primal, primary, prime.
Antonyms: consequent, ensuing, following, subsequent, succeeding, penultimate, final, last, latest, latter, terminal, ultimate.

8. SENSATION (noun)  सनसनी
Meaning: a widespread reaction of interest and excitement.
Synonyms: buzz, craze, cri, enthusiasm, fad, fashion, trend, vogue, fervor, passion, furor, fuss, hullabaloo, uproar, crusade, cult, movement, novelty.
Antonyms: classic, standard, bland, mild, deadness, numbness, breakdown, apathy, nonsensicality, lull, hogwash.

9. TOUT (verb)   प्रस्तुत करना 
Meaning: to advertise, talk about, or praise something or someone repeatedly, especially as a way of encouraging people.
Synonyms: glorify, trumpet, tub-thump, acclaim, applaud, extol, laud, magnify, compliment, eulogize, advance, advertise, boost, herald, promote, publicize, assert, aver, claim.
Antonyms: discommend, disparage, blame, censure, reprehend, reprobate, admonish, chide, criticize, rebuke, reprimand, reproach, reprove, excoriate, vilify, slam.

10. SMASH (verb)  तोड़ना
Meaning: to defeat or destroy completely.
Synonyms: demolish, crash, ruin, wreck, break, pound, bash, annihilate, knock, strike, overthrow, clash, dash, triumph, beat.

Antonyms: fail, lose, fizzle, undertake, fix, allude, reclaim, resume, revive, retrieve, soften, recover, recount.
