  • Fetters - something that limits your freedom to do what you want
  • Ordinance - an official order by a government, king, queen etc
  • Threaten - to tell someone that you might or you will cause them harm, especially in order to make them do something
  • Whistle-blower - someone who reports dishonest or illegal activities within an organization to someone in authority
  • Offence - a crime or illegal activity for which there is a punishment
  • Disclose - to give information to people, especially information that was secret
  • Allegation - a statement that someone has done something wrong or illegal even though this has not been proved
  • Sanction - official permission for taking action
  • Grave - so serious that you feel worried
  • Consolidating - to combine several small things to become one large unit
  • Insulating -  to protect someone from unpleasant knowledge or harmful experiences
  • Frivolous - lacking any real purpose or importance
  • Concerned - involved in something
  • Patently - in a way that is so obvious that no one could disagree
  • Legitimate - fair and reasonable
  • Venality - the quality of being open to bribery or overly motivated by money
  • Mandatory - ordered by a law or rule
  • Cognizance - the process by which you recognize and understand something
  • Paralyse - to make something unable to operate normally
  • Impending - an impending event or situation, especially an unpleasant one, is one that will happen very soon
  • Probe - an attempt to find out the truth about an issue
  • Provision - a statement within an agreement or a law that a particular thing must happen or be done, especially before another can happen or be done
  • Prosecution - the process or act of accusing someone of a crime and asking a court of law to judge them
  • Amendment - a change made to a law or agreement
  • Proviso - the chance to change a decision or an agreement if a situation changes
  • Verdict - an official judgment made in a court
  • Statutory - controlled by a law or statute
  • Touchstone - a standard that is used for testing or judging other things
  • Flux - a condition of continuous change
  • Misconduct - seriously bad or dishonest behaviour, especially by someone who has a position of responsibility
  • Bona fide - a bona fide person or thing is really what they seem to be or what they claim to be
  • Enforce - to make sure that a law or rule is obeyed by people
  • Behove - used for saying that someone should do something because it is the right thing to do
  • Ostensibly - used for saying that although someone pretends to have one reason for something, there is in fact another reason
  • Edifice - a complicated system or policy
  • Terror - a strong feeling of fear
  • Strategic - carefully planned in order to achieve a particular goal, especially in war, business, or politics
  • Muddle - a confused situation or condition
  • Alarm bells - something that makes you feel something unpleasant or dangerous is going to happen
  • Strategy - a plan or method for achieving something, especially over a long period of time
  • Stabilise - to reach a state where there are no longer any major changes or problems
  • Insurgency - an attempt by a group of people to take control of their country by force
  • Waging - to start and to continue a war or a fight
  • Bloody - covered with or full of blood
  • Sectarian - caused by disagreements among people from different religious groups
  • Shia - one of the main groups in the religion of Islam
  • Shrine - a religious place built to remember a particular holy person or event
  • Coalition - a temporary union of different political parties that agree to form a government together
  • Vis-à-vis - compared to or relating to someone or something
  • Conflict - angry disagreement between people or groups
  • Diplomat - an official whose job is to represent their government in a foreign country
  • Amid - if something happens amid particular feelings or events, it happens while people have these feelings or while these events are happening
  • Pursue - to try to achieve something
  • Offensive - unpleasant or insulting, and likely to make people upset or embarrassed
  • Reaching out - to try to communicate with a person or a group of people, usually in order to help or involve them
  • Outright - used for emphasizing that something happens or is done completely at one time or in a single process
