Objective of this Scheme:
- To minimize the energy consumption with the help of energy efficient bulbs.
- Increase the awareness on using efficient equipment that can reduce electricity bills.
- Also, help to preserve the environment.
Targets of the scheme
- Replacing 77 Crore incandescent bulbs with LEDs by 2019.
Companies involved in implementing UJALA
- Electricity Distribution Company
- Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL)
- NTPC Ltd,
- PFC,
- REC, and Power Grid
Eligibility criteria
- Every grid-connected consumer having a metered connection can get the LED bulbs at about 40% of the market price.
- Minimum of 2 to a maximum of 10 LED bulbs can be availed by consumers.
Prices of appliances under UJALA
- 9W LED bulbs to cost Rs 70,
- 20W LED tube light to cost Rs 220
- For the UJALA appliances, Consumers appealed not to pay any amount over and above the prices fixed by EESL.

- Consumers can procure the energy efficient bulbs at a cheaper price (40% lesser than the market price).
- Energy and electricity bills can be saved.
- Greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced.
- Three-year warranty on every LED is provided by EESL.
- The implementing agencies provided the toll-free number to register complaints on faulty pieces.
