Railway Exam is a Treasure Trove for the youths of the country as it comes with smart salary allowances along with innumerable perks. The notification by Railway Recruitment Board for thousands of vacant seats for various posts comes out within approximately 2-3 years difference and this is a reason that aspirants apply for this desirable exam at the drop of the hat. One notable perk regarding RRB is Promotion. For the year 2018, there are 62, 907 vacancies for Group D posts. The last date for applying these posts is 31st March 2018.

Having said of career growth in RRB jobs, this post is devoted to make you familiarize how one gets promotion to Group C/ Group B posts from Group D/ Group C posts, what are the procedures, eligibility criteria, Training Time, Test Syllabus, Qualifications, Job nature, Privileges under Particular Pay Commission, Time Period allotted in one particular post etc. have been discussed below point wise: 

Computer Based Test (CBT): Tentatively scheduled during April and May, 2018.

Railway Pay Scale:

Level 01 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix with initial pay of Rs.18000/- plus other allowances admissible at that time.
After adding perks & emoluments over all salary will be Rs.23,000-25,000/-.

Career Growth: After 3 years of work experience you will get promotion by taking departmental exams to Group 'C'

Eligibility Criteria for Promotion from Group D to C


Based on the performance in the Written Examination. Marks are given for written test – 85 marks and record of service- 15 marks

Written test: One paper divided into two parts Part 'A' and Part ‘B to test the working knowledge of the Railway servant of the English language and Part 'B' his general standard of intelligence and proficiency through questions in Arithmetic, General Knowledge mainly pertaining to Railway 

• Paper may be set in Bilingual in Hindi/English and may be answered in Hindi also.

• No viva-voice

Group D staff member eligible for Promotion: on 3 years completion of regular service on Dec 31.

(The minimum service condition does not apply to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates)

Prescribed percentage (as given below) in nominated Group C categories are to be filled by promotion of Group D employees after selection in written exam.

Technical: APWI(25%), Key man/ Key mate (33 1/3%, skilled posts in S&T(50%), Fireman A(25%)

Non-technical: Account Clerk (25%),, Personnel Branch Clerk(25%),Commercial Clerk(33 1/2%), TC(33 1/2%), Train Clerk(33 1/2%), Timekeepers(33 1/2%),Fuel checkers(33 1/2%), Store clerks(33 1/2%), Markers(100%).

• For Promotion from Group D staff to Group 'C' posts in the Ministerial cadre: typing speed of 30 w.p.m. in English or 25 w.p.m. in Hindi is required. Promotions may, however, be allowed on provisional basis Training.

• In the case of failures in the first attempt the employees may be given second chance to qualify.

ALLOWANCES: 

All allowances like Dearness, Compensatory and House Rent Allowances will be allowed to them at the scales applicable, had the stipend been treated as pay.

Eligibility conditions for promotion from Group C to Group B posts in the major departments having ‘Organised Services’ [except Accounts Department].

Group ‘C’ employees with 03/05 years of non-fortuitous service in the minimum grade of 5000/- and in higher Group ‘C’ grades [Vth CPC] are eligible for appearing in the 70% Selection/30% LDCE for promotion to Group ‘B’ in the major departments having ‘Organized Services’. Eligibility conditions for promotion to 70% quota of Group ‘B’ posts of Assistant Personnel Officers have neen modified.

After implementation of the pay scales recommended by the VI Pay Commission, conditions are as follows: 

[i] For Group ‘B’ selection [70% quota], Group ‘C’ employees working in Pay Band PB-2 [9300-34800] with Grade Pay of 4200 and above with 3 years of non-fortuitous service in the grade will be eligible.

[ii] For Group ‘B’ selection [30% quota], Group ‘C’ employees working in Pay Band PB-2 [9300-34800] with Grade Pay of 4200 and above with 5 years of non-fortuitous service in the grade will be eligible. 

[iii] In the integrated seniority of Group ‘C’ employees eligible for Group ‘B’ selections [70% quota], employees in Pay Band PB-2 [9300-34800] with Grade Pay of 4600 will be placed above those in Pay Band PB-2 [9300-34800] with Grade Pay of 4200. In either category, the relative seniority of employees coming from different streams will be determined with reference to length of non-fortuitous service in the Scale of PB-2 +4600 or PB-2+4200, as the case may be.

[iv] Selections to Group ‘B’ which are already in progress may be proceeded with and finalized as per the existing principles. The LDCE, wherever the same is in force, is a part of the process of filling vacancies in Group ‘B’. Therefore, whatever is followed in the case of 70% Selection, may also be followed in the case of corresponding LDCE.
