New Appointments
- BJP MLA Vijay Rupani took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for the second consecutive term in state capital Gandhinagar.

- Rupani had won from the Rajkot West constituency by a margin of 53,755 votes.
- 19 other ministers, along with Deputy CM-elect Nitin Patel, also took oath.
- India’s first-ever broad gauge air-conditioned AC EMU suburban train was flagged off from Borivali station on western railway in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
- The Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions has launched an electronic-Human Resource Management System (e-HRMS).

- This e-HRMS will not only help employees to see all their details with respect to service book, leave, GPF, salary, etc. but also helps them apply for different kind of claims/reimbursements, loan/advances, leave, leave encashment, LTC advances, tour etc. on a single platform.
Science & Technology
- ISRO and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) of NASA are jointly working on development of a Dual Frequency Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging Satellite named as NISAR.

- Veteran Bengali actor Partha Mukherjee (70) passed away.

- Some of his popular films include 'Balika Bodhu', 'Dhonni Meye', 'Agnishwar' and 'Amar Prithibi'.
- The chief animator of the famous cartoon character Bugs Bunny, Bob Givens (99) passed away.

- He had also worked on the 1937 animated film 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- India Government Mint (IGM), a unit of Security Printing and Minting Corp of India Ltd has launched India’s first home-grown high purity gold reference standard –Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravya (BND-4201).

- The BND-4201 is reference material for gold of ‘9999’ fineness (gold that is 99.99% pure with impurities of only 100 parts-per-million).
- It will be beneficial to the consumers and public at large to ensure purity of gold.
- The Finance Ministry has asked public sector banks to look at rationalising their domestic and overseas branches to strengthen their financials.

- It has asked the banks to discuss consolidation of overseas branches and take a final call on closing some unviable operations.
- To provide a three-month window for defaulting companies and their director to submit their annual filings, the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) is going to roll out Condonation of Delay Scheme from 1st January to 31st March 2018.
- The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all NGOs, individuals and business entities receiving foreign funds to open accounts in any of 32 designated banks, including one foreign, within a month. T

- he MHA order comes in exercise of the powers conferred under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), 2010.
- A report by UK's Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) has revealed that India is going to overtake France and UK to become world's fifth-largest economy in 2018.

- China is likely to overtake the US as world's largest economy in 2032, CEBR added.
