1. COMMERCIAL  APPRENTICE

Recruitment in Commercial Apprentice (CA) is for employing the successful candidates in Supervisor/ Inspector posts in Commercial departments. This is the major departments in Indian Railway, taking care of collecting revenue. Earlier training period for these Apprentices was 2 years but recent circular by Railway Board curtailed the training period to less than 100 days.

Job Profile of Commercial Apprentice (CA) 

A Commercial Apprentice (CA) is trained as a sort of multi skilled supervisors in the Commercial branch. Less than 100 days training is given to Apprentices (CA) in different categories of working of Commercial branch. i.e. training in duties of commercial clerks, parcel clerks, goods clerks, catering and commercial inspectors.

After training they will be posted as Commercial Supervisor/ Goods Supervisor/ Parcel Supervisor/ Commercial Inspector. They will be given initial salary as 35400 INR as per 7th Pay Commission. They are eligible for Limited Departmental Competitive exam to become Assistant Commercial Manager ( Group-B ) after 5 years of service.

2. GOODS GUARD

Job Profile of Goods Guard

Among all the posts mentioned, Goods Guard has the best-defined work description. The job description includes:
Vehicle Guidance (VG) –
  • This is a written document incorporating information about number of wagons, their tare weight, load tonnage of individual wagons and total tonnage. The VG is given by Station /Yard Master. 
  • To conduct checks on entire train for any loose ends that might endanger its smooth running.
  • Ensure brake continuity with the Loco Pilot. Ensuring that the train has sufficient brake power and signing the Brake Power certificate(BPC).
  • Monitoring the formation while it is in motion for any abnormalities.
  • Curate various train report. viz., Combined Train Reports, Late Arrival Reports
  • Along with Loco Pilot/Assistant Loco Pilot identify and address minor troubles experienced while the train is moving.
  • You will have to undergo 45 days training in respective Zonal training institutes.

3. TRAFFIC APPERENTICE

Recruitment in Traffic apprentice categories, is for employing the successful candidates in Supervisor/ Inspector posts in Operating (Traffic) departments. These are one of the major department in Indian Railways, taking care of train operations. After undergoing intensive training for 300 days which was earlier 2 years, these personnel are appointed in the traffic department.
Posted as Traffic Inspectors or as Supervisors like Deputy Station Superintendents, Section Controllers, etc in PB - 2 (Rs. 9300 - 34800) with Grade Pay Rs. 4200 (7th C.P.C.).

Job Profile of  Traffic Apprentice

A Traffic Apprentice (TA) is trained as a sort of multi skilled supervisors in the Traffic Transportation (Operations) branch. 300 days training is given to Apprentices (TA) in different categories of working of Traffic branch. i.e. training as Station Master, Guard, Section Controller, Yard Masters, Traffic inspectors. They will work short periods as  Station Master, Yard Master and Guard independently during training  also.

4. ENQUIRY CUM RESERVATION CLERK

Salary: Following are the salary and other perks an ECRC gets.

Job Profile of  Enquiry cum Reservation Clerk (ECRC)

An Enquiry cum Reservation Clerk (ECRC) issue computerized reserved tickets for Railway passengers and to respond to enquiries regarding issue of the same or helping the passengers to plan their travel. Job of Railway ECRC is only indoor, in most of the places there are air conditioned offices. This is one of the best available posts for Girls in Indian Railways.
In most of the stations ECRC works in two shifts on alternate days - from 8-14 hrs and 14-22 hrs. In some small stations where the earnings are less.

5.  RRB JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT  ASSISTANT

Job Profile of  Junior Accountant Assistant (JAA)

The job responsibility of a JAA is in the department of Finance and accounts of Indian Railways. This is a high responsible job where the personnel has to be an in charge of bill clearing, Railway budget analysis, purchase department and store management which also includes stock verification. JAA is responsible for the following duties:

  • Keeping accounts
  • Internal check of the transactions which include receipts and expenditures
  • Settlement of claims
  • Calling for tenders for various services of the railway department
  • Managing budget as per the rules and codes of the department and coordinating with other departments for proper budgetary control monitoring. Also, JAA should contribute towards budget compilation.
  • Providing account reports, inventory management and other data of the finance department
  • Checking for any financial irregularities and addressing grievances related to finances.

Job Profile of  Senior Clerk Cum Typist

The maximum probability is that you will be posted in the Personal Department, where you will be under the control of Senior Divisional Personal Officer responsible for human resource development of the cadre.There are many other department such as Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Signal and Telecommunication and can be posted in these departments for clerical works.
The job is mainly indoors. This is one of the best job for girls in Indian railways. You will mainly be assigning work to junior clerks and supervising it on a day to day basis
No Shifts. You will be working in usual office hours. i.e. 9am-6pm on weekdays. Holidays on Saturday and Sunday signing work to junior clerks and supervising it on a day to day basis.

Job Profile of Assistant Station Master (ASM)

An Assistant Station Master (ASM) is in the charge of running of trains at a station. He/ She operates the signals, ensures that everything goes as per the rules laid out. An Station Master (ASM) has to work in shifts. He is also responsible to take care of passengers, boarding/ deboarding trains from his station. It is his ultimate job, to keep all the passenger amenities fit & fine at his station, so that, the rail traveler do not face any problem. Also, he is responsible for upkeep and cleanliness of the station. At small stations, Station Masters are also being assigned with commercial jobs like ticket/parcel booking, reservation etc.They are also supposed to help the rail traveler in all respect. In case of any exigencies/ accident, the Station Master plays the role of manager at his station and takes care of rescue operation etc

As the name suggests, the Job of Traffic Assistant is to assist their seniors. Traffic Assistant are trained for working as Traffic or Signal in charge. In simple words helping in the streamlined movement of trains.
