Maharashtra govt plans to supply free seeds, pesticides to marginal farmers
The Maharashtra government is planning to supply seeds, fertilisers and pesticides free of cost to small and marginal farmers to keep the production costs minimal and to reduce their losses. Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil gave this information while talking to the reporters today in Mumbai. He said that the idea is to keep the production cost or input cost minimal so that farmers will not feel the heat when the market rates are down.Patil added that the government is also coming with a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for food grains, which will ensure that farmers will get certain minimum amount for their produce.

Heat wave conditions continued to sweep North and North-Western parts of the country. Temperatures at most parts in the region are in the range of 3 to 6 degree Celsius above normal. Met department says heat wave conditions will prevail at most places in Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra and Kutch, Gujarat, Vidharbha and East Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Central Maharashtra and at isolated places over Chhattisgarh during next 2 to 3 days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated various units of the thermal power plants at Koradi, Chandrapur and Parli of Maharashtra to the nation. The total capacity of these plants is 3230 Mega Watts. These include Three super-critical units 660 MW each at Koradi, Two of 500 MW each at Chandrapur, One of 250 MW at Parli. The power station was inaugurated during Modi’s day-long visit to Nagpur.

Juvenile Justice Board on Saturday ordered the Delhi government to issue a notification to ban the sale of whiteners, thinners and vulcanised solutions to children below the age of 18 years to check drug abuse. The board further asked the government to assign one de-addiction centre per district, observing that the existing centres in the national capital region are overcrowded.

The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has recommended the safety measures concerning safety of women commuters availing of cab services.
These measures have been recommended by the Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, WCD Minister, to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping (MoRTH).The Union WCD Minister has launched a hashtag, #HelpMeWCD, where any woman or child facing harassment/ violence can directly report their cases by tweeting.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC) and the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) in New Delhi. The MoU was signed between the NSFDC under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Development and Commissioner (Handlooms) under the Union Ministry of Textiles.The objective of this MoU is to help Scheduled Caste weavers and their families by promoting the production and marketing of high value, quality handlooms products at Block level Cluster in various States like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Odisha.

In Syria, a deadly explosion have killed at least 100 people in an attack near buses carrying Syrians evacuated from two besieged government-held towns. The yesterday blast in Rashidin, west of Aleppo, targeted residents who were evacuated from the rebel-besieged towns of Fouaa and Kefraya in Idlib province under a deal reached between the Syrian government and rebels. Rescue workers from the Syrian Civil Defence, also known as the White Helmets, said at least 100 people were killed in the attack.

The US National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has announced that it along with the US Air Force successfully field-tested a modernised gravity nuclear bomb B61-12 on March 14 at the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada. The test was intended to evaluate the weapon's "non-nuclear functions" and the aircraft's capability to deliver the weapon, NNSA said.

In Iran, floods in north-western provinces have claimed at least 40 lives. Severe flooding, which was caused by torrential rains, started on Friday in the provinces of East and West Azarbaijan, Kurdistan and Zanjan. 35 people were killed in East Azarbaijan province, with 17 out of them being carried away in the cars by waters and later found dead by rescuers.

Attempted North Korean missile launch fails, US confirms
US Defence Department has confirmed that North Korea carried out a missile test and said the launch failed almost immediately. The missile blew up almost immediately. The US Pacific Command said in a statement that the type of missile is still being assessed. South Korea defence ministry also said in a statement that a new North Korean missile test failed and it is analysing the test for further details. The launch of the ballistic missile occurred near Sinpo.

Turkey: Police detain 49 Islamic State terrorists planning attack ahead of referendum
In Turkey, police have detained 49 Islamic State terrorists planning a sensational terror attack ahead of today’s referendum on governance model. According a report by Turkey's Anadolu news agency, simultaneous operations have been conducted in several districts of Istanbul. Forty-one of the 49 detained are reported to be foreigners. Earlier this month, the IS terror group called for attacks against the Turkish referendum. More than 55 million Turkish citizens will vote today on proposed constitutional amendments, including a major increase in the powers of the presidency.

Nirmala Sitharaman invites Japanese companies to explore investment opportunities in India
Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today invited Japanese companies to explore investment opportunities in India and highlighted the Centre's various reform initiatives to boost infrastructure landscape in the country. The Commerce and Industry Ministry said in a statement that Nirmala Sitharaman addressed a gathering at the India Investment Seminar organised by Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in Tokyo today about investment opportunities available in India.She also spoke on the various reform initiatives like National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) for enhancing infrastructure financing, Digital India programme to connect 250,000 villages with optical fiber and Jan Dhan scheme.

Srikanth to face Praneeth in all-India final of Singapore Superseries Badminton
It will be all-Indian final in the Singapore Super Series badminton tournament. Indian shuttlers B Sai Praneeth and K Srikanth both entered the final of this tournament today. Praneeth dished out a dominating performance to outclass South Korea's Lee Dong-keun in straight games and reach his maiden Super Series Badminton final. Praneeth defeated three-time Korea Masters Grand Prix Gold winner Lee 21-6, 21-8 in a lop-sided semifinal match. In another semi final match, Srikanth defeated Indonesia's Anthony Ginthing by 21-13, 21-14.
Pioneering HIV/AIDS researcher Mark Wainberg passes away
Renowned Canadian AIDS researcher and social activist Dr Mark Wainberg passed away in Florida, USA. He was 71. Wainberg is believed to have drowned while on holiday with his family in Miami. Mark A. Wainberg was a Canadian HIV/AIDS researcher and HIV/AIDS activist. He was the Director of the McGill University AIDS Centre at the Montreal Jewish General Hospital and Professor of Medicine and of Microbiology at McGill University.
