Hello, Greetings!! SSC CGL Pre 2017 will commence in the month of June/July 2017. In order to help and guide all of you, we're going to post VOCABULARY BASED ON THE HINDU NEWSPAPER. In all the competitive exams, Vocabulary questions are asked from newspapers. 

1.Attrition
Meaning: A wearing down to weaken or destroy
Synonym: erosion, grinding
Antonym: building, happiness
Sentence: The difficulty was to overcome its susceptibility to attrition.

2.Quixotic
Meaning: idealistic
Synonym: dreamy, foolish, impractical
Antonym: cautious, realistic, wise
Sentence: That sounds quixotically noble, this stand for the ‘inviolability of marriage.

3.Regale
Meaning: entertain or amuse (someone) with talk.
Synonym: entertain, amuse, divert, delight, fascinate
Antonym: anger, annoy, bore, dull, tire, upset
Sentence: "he regaled her with a colourful account of that afternoon's meeting"

4.Remorse
Meaning: deep regret or guilt for a wrong committed.
Synonym: contrition, deep regret, repentance, penitence
Sentence: "they were filled with remorse and shame"

5.Banal
Meaning: so lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring.
Synonym: trite, hackneyed, clichéd, platitudinous, vapid, commonplace
Antonym: original
Sentence: "songs with banal, repeated words"

6.Blandish
Meaning: coax (someone) with kind words or flattery.
Synonym:  cajole, palaver
Antonym:  bulldoze, bully, intimidate;
Sentence: "I was blandishing her with imprudence to get her off the subject"

7.Clandestine
Meaning: done in a private place or way: done secretly
Synonym: Furtive, surreptitious, hole &corner, hugger-mugger
Sentence:  “I took a clandestine peek at the price tag on the diamond necklace”

8.Palaver
Meaning: prolonged and tedious fuss or discussion.
Synonym: bother, commotion, trouble, rigmarole, chatter
Sentence: "mucking around with finances and all that palaver"

9.Blatant
Meaning: (of bad behaviour) done openly and unashamedly.
Synonym: flagrant, glaring, obvious, undisguised,
Sentence: "blatant lies"

10.Picaresque
Meaning: relating to an episodic style of fiction dealing with the adventures of a rough and dishonest but appealing hero.
Synonym:  dishonest, dishonorable
Sentence: "a picaresque adventure novel"
