1. BRICS Communication Ministers 2nd meeting to begin in Bengaluru
- Today, the two-day 2nd BRICS Communication Ministers meeting chaired by Minister of State for Communication Manoj Sinha has begun in Bengaluru (Karnataka).
- The High-Level delegation from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa will deliberate for greater cooperation in Telecommunication and ICT sectors.
- The meeting will discuss ways to improve collaboration in the field of digital economy, future communications, mobile technology among other things.
2. South African President Jacob Zuma faces motion of no confidence
- Today, South Africa’s Parliament is to debate a vote of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma amid growing calls for him to resign after a anti-corruption probe last week raised allegations of misconduct against the South African President.
- This is the third time in less than a year the President is facing a no confidence vote.

3. Gujarat govt. to open generic medicine stores for poor patients
- Gujarat government will start Deendayal generic medicine stores to sell generic medicines.
- It will remain open 24 hours and sell around 1,000 generic drugs to the poor patients at 40 to 80 % lower rates.
- In the first phase, 52 stores will be opened in cities and towns.
- Mobile application ‘G-Dava‘ has also launched, it will act as a search engine for information on branded and generic medicines, price difference, chemical composition, availability, etc.
4. India’s first LNG-powered bus launched in Kerala
- The first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) driven bus of India has launched in Kerala.
- Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan jointly flagged off the first pilot run of the eco-friendly bus.
- The LNG-driven bus has rolled out as part of the Union Government’s plans to use LNG.
- Liquefied natural gas is natural gas that has been converted to liquid form for ease of storage or transport.
5. Jaitley to inaugurate Economic Editors’ Conference-2016
- Today, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has inaugurated the two day Economic Editors’ Conference-2016 in New Delhi.
- About 75 Economic Editors from different parts of the country are participating in this conference.
- The Main objective of holding the Conference is to apprise the media persons about the major policy initiatives, achievements and future road map of different participating Departments and Ministries of the Government.
- Press Information Bureau (PIB) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance is organizing the Conference.
6. State Textile Ministers’ conference begins in Delhi
- Today, the day-long annual conference of State Textile Ministers began in New Delhi.
- The conference presided by Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani is being attended by textile ministers and representatives from 10 States.

7. China launches pulsar navigation satellite XPNAV-1
- China has successfully launched a navigation satellite XPNAV-1 , which will conduct in-orbit experiments using pulsar detectors to demonstrate new technologies.
- The X-ray pulsar navigation satellite has been launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in China.
- The satellite will undergo tests on its detector functions and space environment adaptability.
- The satellite will help reduce the spacecraft’s reliance on ground-based navigation methods and is expected to lead to autonomous spacecraft navigation in the future.

8. Direct tax collection up 10.6% to Rs 3.77 lakh Cr.
- Direct tax collections have soared over 10 % during the April-October period of 2016-17 on higher personal tax receipts.
- 3.77 lakh crore rupees has been collected in direct taxes during the April-October period of 2016-17 which is 10.6 % higher than collections in the same period a year ago.
- The gross collection of Corporate Income Tax (CIT) grew at 11.6% during the 7 months, while that under personal income tax (PIT) the growth was 18.6 per cent over the corresponding period of last fiscal.
- The net growth in CIT collections is 5% while that in PIT collections is 18.4 % after adjusting for refunds.
- Refunds amounting to 93,836 crore rupees have been issued during April-October, 32.2 per cent higher than issued in the year-ago period.

9. Ishaat Hussain named interim chairman of TCS
- India’s No. 1 software services firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has nominated Ishaat Hussain as interim chairman of TCS in place of Cyrus Mistry.
- Currently,Ishaat Hussain serving as the chairman of Voltas and satellite television provider Tata Sky.
- Tata Sons owned a 73.26 percent stake in TCS and Mistry whose family controls an 18.41 percent stake in Tata Sons.
