BRICS Communication Ministers meeting begins in Bengaluru
Union Minister of State for Communication Manoj Sinha today called upon BRICS countries to galvanise its strengths in building synergies for high tech products and develop standards of services in rural areas. Speaking at the inaugural session of the two day meeting of BRICS communication ministers in Bengaluru today, he called upon members to identify challenges and best practices in policy, regulatory and security domains to meet the ever changing needs of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) environment.

President presents colour flag to two units of Indian Air Force
In Haryana, President Pranab Mukherjee today presented colour flag to two units of the Indian Air Force 501 Signals Unit and 30 Squadron at Ambala Air Force station. Both the units had been selected for their excellent performance ever since being raised in the IAF. On the occasion, the Jawans of 501 Signals Unit and 30 Squadron presented a spectacular parade in honour of president. IAF’s Suryakiran and Sarang aerobatics teams comprising of Hawk aircraft and Dhruv Helicopters also made a sublime performance.

State Textile Ministers' conference begins in Delhi
The day-long annual conference of State Textile Ministers began in New Delhi today. The conference presided by Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani is being attended by textile ministers and representatives from 10 States. Addressing the conference the Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta, said the government is giving special focus on power loom sector through solar power.

He said, in the world market, Indian handicrafts demand is increasing and craftsmen should give special focus on dying arts. Noting that the contribution of textile sector is 17 per cent to the GDP, the minister said, the centre has been trying to provide healthy environment to textile industry workers. Mr Tamta said in view of the huge size of the textile industry and its diverse sectors, it needs workers of various skills and types.
Govt mulls making airbags mandatory in all vehicles
Government is planning to make it mandatory for auto companies to provide rear view sensors or backup cameras, speed warning systems, airbags and child pedestrian system in all new vehicles from October 2017.   The Road Transport and Highways Ministry in a draft notification said that vehicles should be fitted with airbags, speed alert systems to warn if the speed exceeds 80 kilometer per hour. It has also sought suggestions including objections from automakers on it.Also, the government plans to set up its own safety authority, the Bharat National Car Assessment Programme (NCAP), which will rate vehicles on safety.

Govt working to raise number of online Haj applicants: Naqvi
Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that government is working on ways to raise the number of online Haj applicants to 70 per cent from the 11 per cent recorded last year.

Mr Naqvi said, the Centre will request the Saudi government to increase the quota for Indian Haj pilgrims. He said, last year only 45,843 people applied online for the Haj pilgrimage, which is 11 per cent of total applications received.
Mr Naqvi was in Mumbai to preside over a meeting of All India Haj Umrah Tour Organisers Association. During the meeting, the Minister said that the Centre is committed to provide best of services and facilities to Haj Pilgrims.
Prabhu to lay foundation stone of two rail tracks in Assam
In Assam, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will lay foundation stone of two tracks as well as flag off passenger train service between Karimganj and Maishashan in the newly converted broad gauge section. Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal and Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain will be present for the function at Maligaon.

Officials in the North East Frontier Railway said that length of doubling of New Bongaigaon to Kamakhya is 167 kilometers. Meanwhile, with the flagging off the first passenger train service between Karimganj and Maishashan broad gauge section , the conversion of broad gauge tracks in Barak valley will be completed.
Gujarat govt to open generic medicine stores for poor patients
Gujarat government will start Deendayal generic medicine stores to sell generic medicines which will remain open 24 hours and sell around 1,000 generic drugs to the poor patients at 40 to 80 per cent lower rates. In the first phase, 52 stores will be opened in cities and towns. In a statement, Minister of State for Health, Shankar Chaudhary said, trained staff will operate these computerised stores.

Number of drugs will be increased to 2,000 in the second phase. Apart from multiple stores in one city, these stores will also be opened at tehsil level, the release said. The stores will also operate on franchise model. Generic, branded generic, over-the-counter medicines and surgical implants will be available at stores. Mobile application 'G-Dava' was also launched today by the minister. It will act as a search engine for information on branded and generic medicines, price difference, chemical composition, availability, etc.

Spain is world’s largest organ donor
Spain, which is known to be the world's largest organ donor, performed over 4,700 organ transplants in 2015, according to data released by Spain's National Transplant Organisation. The world leader in organ donation for the past 24 years, the country reportedly performs up to 13 transplants a day. Spain additionally has a rate of 40.2 donors per million people.

Italian court allows mother to give child her name
In Italy, the Constitutional court has ruled against the legislation that automatically gives children of married couples the father's surname. The constitutional court said in a statement that it has declared the unlawfulness of rules providing for the automatic attribution of the paternal surname to legitimate children, when the parents wish otherwise.

Italy's Lower House has approved a bill aimed at changing the law, but it has been blocked in the Senate for years. Campaigners hailed the ruling and called for Parliament to endorse it. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) had earlier condemned the legislation, which dates from Roman times, and had ordered Italy to change it.

Deposits above Rs 2.5 lakh to invite penalty on income mismatch
The Government has warned that the cash deposits above 2 lakh 50 thousands rupees threshold under the 50-day window can attract tax plus a 200 percent penalty in case of income mismatch, said Revenue Secretary Hashmukh Adhia.

In a series of tweets, he said, government will get reports of all cash deposited during the period of 10th November to 30th December above a threshold of 2.5 lakh rupees in every account. He said, the department will do matching of this with income returns filed by the depositors and and suitable action may follow.
He said, any mismatch with income declared by the account holder will be treated as a case of tax evasion. Mr Adhia said, if cash amount of above 10 lakh rupees is deposited in a bank account, not matching with declared income,same will be treated as tax evasion.

Direct tax collection up 10.6% to Rs 3.77 lakh cr
Direct tax collections have soared over 10 per cent during the April-October period of 2016-17 of current financial year on higher personal tax receipts An official release said, as much as 3.77 lakh crore rupees was collected in direct taxes during the April-October period of 2016-17 which is 10.6 per cent higher than collections in the same period a year ago. It said, till October, 44.5 per cent of the Budget Estimates of direct taxes for 2016-17 have been achieved. Direct tax revenue includes corporate and personal income tax.

Maharashtra, Canada to work on urban infra, smart cities
Maharashtra government has signed an agreement with Canada to implement a joint action plan on urban infrastructure development in the State. The Canada-Maharashtra action plan seeks to introduce companies, solutions and financing from the North American country for urban development and implementation of state-led infrastructure projects.

The plan envisages supporting Indo-Canadian partnerships, including private sector companies, universities and colleges to speed up project implementation, promote economic development and contribute to rising standards of living in the state.Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters in Mumbai yesterday that in the joint action plan, the target areas for collaboration include affordable housing, urban infrastructure including smart cities, project financing, training and skills development.

Hussain appointed interim TCS Chairman replacing Mistry
Tata Sons on Thursday appointed former Finance Director Ishaat Hussain as the interim Chairman of Tata Consultancy Services with immediate effect in place of the recently-ousted Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry. "Hussain shall hold office as Chairman of the company until a new Chairman is appointed", an official statement said. Tata Sons owns a 73.26% stake in TCS, reports said.

Dravid made brand ambassador for Blind T20 WC 2017
Former cricketer Rahul Dravid was announced as the brand ambassador for the 2nd T20 World Cup Cricket for the Blind, to be held in January and February 2017. A total of ten teams, including Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies are participating in the event. Dravid also launched the 'Support Blind Cricket by buying a Cricket Ball' campaign.

China launches pulsar navigation satellite
China has launched a navigation satellite, which will conduct in-orbit experiments using pulsar detectors to demonstrate new technologies. The X-ray pulsar navigation satellite was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center today. While in orbit, the satellite will undergo tests on its detector functions and space environment adaptability.State-run Xinhua news agency reported that the satellite will help reduce the spacecraft's reliance on ground-based navigation methods and is expected to lead to autonomous spacecraft navigation in the future.
Bangalore-based firm aims to be 1st private moon lander
Bangalore-based TeamIndus aims to become the first private company to land a spacecraft on moon, through Google's $20 million Lunar X-Prize competition, of which it is the only entrant. TeamIndus' mission involves launching a spacecraft with a surface rover through ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. If successful, it could become the first Indian company to make a 'soft' moon landing.

Real Madrid and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a "lifetime" deal with sportswear giant Nike which will reportedly fetch him over $1 billion (approximately ₹ 6,643 crore). With this deal, Ronaldo has become the third athlete to sign a lifetime endorsement deal with Nike after NBA players Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

Mumbai's Western Railways women's team clinched the title in the 33rd Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament by defeating Haryana XI 4-2 in the title clash played at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar yesterday
Western Railways Mumbai girls dominated the proceeding from the word go. In the 14th minute of the game Western Railways’s Anupa Barla netted the ball after dodging goalkeeper Shewata of Haryana. She struck again in the 34th minute to make it 2- nil.The winners were presented a cash award of 1 lakh rupee and trophy and runners-up got 75000 rupees and Trophy. Jaspreet Kaur of Haryana XI was declared the best player of the tournament.
India's Junaid Kaliwala wins physique title at NPC Eastern
India's Junaid Kaliwala won the physique title at the recently-concluded National Physique Committee (NPC) Eastern USA in New Jersey, US. The 27-year-old finished ahead of 15 athletes from different nationalities to win the title which takes him closer to turning professional in 2017. Notably, Kaliwala was the only Indian to participate at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic in March this year.
Alcohol to be banned in stadiums for 2022 World Cup in Qatar

Alcohol would be banned from streets and public places during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The organisers stated that they were against the provision of alcohol in the stadiums and they would not bow to the pressure by FIFA to alter its laws. Drinking will be permitted only in "far-away places", said the head of the organising committee.
