IMPORTANT DAY
International Day for non-violence: 2nd October
i. The International Day of Non-Violence is observed on October 2, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. This day is referred to in India as Gandhi Jayanti.
ii. The day of Gandhi Jayanti is dedicated as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He was a great leader of the Indian Independence Movement.
iii. He launched the famous “Quit India Movement” to drive the British out of our country. This day is a gazetted holiday in India.
Gujarat's Rani Ki Vav named Cleanest Heritage Site
Rani kiVav at Patan, the Unesco archaeological World Heritage Site in Gujarat has been recognized as the cleanest heritage site in the country. The heritage site was among 11 institutions and organisations felicitated by Prime Minister NarendraModi.
Rani Ki Vav is an intricately constructed stepwell on the banks of Saraswatiriver. Built as a memorial to an 11th century AD, it was added to the list of Unesco's World Heritage Sites in June 2014 Apart from the heritage site, Surat railway station was awarded as the cleanest railway station in the country. These awards was presented to the winners by Modi himself at the first IndoSan (India sanitation) conference on September 30.
Porbandar District Declared ODF
Union Minister of Rural Development, Drinking Water & Sanitation Narendra Singh Tomar declared the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi – Porbandar district – Open Defecation Free (ODF).
The announcement was made during a mass rally in Porbandar to dedicate this declaration to the memory of the Mahatma on his 147th birth anniversary, and the second anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).
Two other districts of Gujarat – Mehsana and Narmada – were also declared ODF along with 30 taluks and 3000 Gram Panchayats in the State.
The nation witnessed a historic moment as the birthplace of the Mahatma was declared ODF on his Jayanti.Gujarat would achieve a 100% ODF Gujarat well before October 2nd, 2019.1 lakh villages and 37 districts of the country are now ODF.
5th International Buddhist Conclave
With a view to showcasing and projecting the Buddhist heritage and pilgrim sites of India, the Ministry of Tourism is organizing the “5th International Buddhist Conclave (from 2nd to 6th October 2016)” in Varanasi-Sarnath in collaboration with the State Governments of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
This year’s International Buddhist Conclave is very special as ASEAN as a Guest of Honour partner and a large participation is expected from ASEAN Countries which are also major source markets for India in general and the Buddhist Heritage sites in particular.
YogendraYadav, PrashantBhushan launch new party
Expelled AamAadmi Party leaders YogendraYadav and PrashantBhushan have launched their new political outfit namely Swaraj India. They made this announcement at the founding convention of the party in New Delhi today.
PrashantBhushan will be the president of the party. In a series of tweets, MrYadav said, the SwarajAbhiyan will continue as campaign organization after formation of the party.
Union Health Minister J P Nadda offers Shramdaan on Gandhi Jayanti
Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Sunday offered Shramdaan on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti as part of Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.
Appreciating the contribution of Sanitation Staff, MrNadda said that to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of such a huge hospital is very big challenge but the sanitation staff has done a commendable job.
He further said that swacchta should become a social movement and awareness about cleanliness and sanitation should reach every village of this country. The Minister said that cleanliness and sanitation should not be a one-time activity but should become a part of daily life. He also added that all hospitals and government health facilities should endeavor to maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout the year.

Singapore PM Lee HsienLoong to arrive in New Delhi tomorrow
Prime Minister of Singapore Lee HsienLoong will arrive in New Delhi tomorrow on a five official visit to India.
He will be accompanied by his wife Madam Ho Ching and a high level delegation which includes key Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior officials.
During the visit, Lee HsienLoong will call on President Pranab Mukherjee and will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister NarendraModi. External Affairs Minister SushmaSwaraj will call on the visiting dignitary.The visiting premier will also tour Udaipur in Rajasthan on 5th and 6th of this month.
FM ArunJaitley embarks on 7-day official visit to Canada, US
Union Finance Minister ArunJaitley is leaving this morning on a seven-day official visit to Canada and the United States. On the first leg of his visit, MrJaitley will reach Canada this evening where he will hold meeting with foreign investors.
In a tweet, Finance Ministry said, during his second leg of the US visit, MrJaitley will take part in the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The three-day annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank will begin on October 7 in Washington.
According to Ministry sources, new Reserve Bank Governor Urjit Patel and Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das will also attend the annual meetings with the Finance Minister. During his stay in the US, he will hold talks with global investors.

Government decides to raise EPFO investment in ETF
The Government has decided to raise the Employees Provident Fund ( EPF) investment in Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) from present 5% to 10%. ShriBandaruDattatreya, the Minister of State(IC) for Labour and Employment announced that the decision has been taken considering the good returns in ETF.
Indian Bank revises interest rates for FCNR (B) deposits
Public sector Indian Bank has revised its interest rates for foreign currency non-resident banking deposits with immediate effect.“For FCNR (B) deposits, in US dollar, the revised interest rates have been fixed at 1.95 per cent for deposits of one year and above but less than two years from the existing 1.96 per cent,” the city-headquartered bank said in a statement.
For deposits of two years and above, but less than three years, interest rates have been revised to 2.01 per cent from the existing 2.06 per cent.For deposits of three years and above, but less than four years, the interest rates were fixed at 2.56 per cent from the existing 2.61 per cent.
Interest rates, for deposits of four years and above but less than five years, have been revised to 2.61 per cent from the existing 2.66 per cent.For deposits of up to five years, the interest rates were fixed at 2.66 per cent from the current 2.71 per cent.
Kotak Bank to acquire 99.5% stake in BSS Microfinance
Kotak Mahindra Bank on Friday said it would acquire Bengaluru-based BSS Microfinance Pvt Ltd. The bank is paying INR 139.2 crore for the 99.49-per cent equity stake.
The acquisition of BSS is Kotak’s second. It acquired ING Vysya Bank in November 2014 in an all-stock deal. The BSS deal is Kotak’s first move into the rapidly growing micro-lending sector.
BSS lends primarily to women in the small- and medium-sized farming segments in Karnataka and Maharashtra, and has a smaller presence in Madhya Pradesh. As of June 30, 2016, the microfinance company’s loan book stood at INR 483 crore, with a customer base of 2,17,000 borrowers and a network of 78 branches.
Narayan SA, President – Commercial Banking, Kotak Mahindra Bank, said, “The acquisition gives us a platform to get into a new space, that is microfinance.”

HCL enters into 15-year partnership with IBM
HCL Technologies on Thursday announced it has entered into a 15-year partnership deal with IBM for automation, development and operations solutions. Automation and DevOps software is crucial to the success of the two companies 'enterprises.
"The partnership will enable us to focus our technical teams on native cloud and cognitive solutions, as well as industry-specific opportunities," HCL said in a blog post. The two companies will work together on future of product roadmaps for Tivoli Workload Scheduler, Rational Testing, Rational Change and Configuration Management.

R Subramania Kumar appointed ED of Indian Overseas Bank
R Subramania Kumar has been appointed as Executive Director of state-owned Indian Overseas Bank, the Finance Ministry. Kumar is currently Executive Director of Indian Bank.

M.S. Sahoo assumes charge as IBBI Chairman
The Centre has constituted a four-member Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) under the Chairmanship of M.S. Sahoo.Sahoo, who was till recently Competition Commission of India (CCI) Member, assumed charge as Chairman of IBBI on Saturday.
The oath of office was administered by Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister ArunJaitley here.Sahoo was last month appointed as IBBI Chairman for a period of five years.The members of the IBBI are Ajay Tyagi, Additional Secretary, Finance Ministry; Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs; G.S. Yadav, Joint Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs; and Unnikrishnan, Legal Advisor, Reserve Bank of India.
The Finance Ministry on Saturday tweeted photos of Sahoo taking oath.The main activity of IBBI would be to regulate the functioning of insolvency professionals, insolvency professional agencies and information utilities under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016.
The Centre had notified the Insolvency Code in May this year. The fact that IBBI has been constituted in a span of four months is a commendable effort, say economy watchers.
While the Centre has for now set up the IBBI with four members, going forward this will be expanded to 10 (including the Chairman), official sources said.Three whole-time members and two other members are to be appointed, which will take the overall tally to 10 in the coming days.

Murga' wins first prize at Swachh Bharat Short Film Festival
Young filmmaker KatyayanShivpuri from Maharashtra has won the first prize at the Swachh Bharat Short Film Festival. He was awarded for his film Murga. Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu awarded Katyayan with a certificate and a cash prize of 10 lakhs rupees.
Addressing the gathering in New Delhi today, Mr Naidu said, the Film Festival was aimed at generating awareness among the people about cleanliness. Four thousand 346 entries were received by the National Film Development Council in this regard, of which ten filmmakers received cash awards.
The Minister also announced that well-known filmmakers including MadhurBhandarkar, Ramesh Sippy and ShoojitSircar will support the Swachh Bharat initiative by producing films

Dsouza becomes the first Indian to complete World's toughest race
Bengaluru's KierenDsouza has become the first Indian to complete the Spartathlon, widely described as the "world's toughest race". The 23-year old completed the 246.6 km distance in the 2016 edition on Saturday, in 33 hours, one minute and 38 seconds. The Spartathlon is an annual run between Athens and Sparta in Greece, with a reported success rate of 50%.
3rd edition of ISL kicks off on spectacular note in Guwahati
The third edition of Indian Super League ,ISL kicked off on a spectacular note at Sarusajai stadium last evening. Eight teams are vying for the coveted trophy . Home team North East United FC defeated Kerala Blasters by one goal to nil in the opening match .
