Hello everyone, in our Lesson 20, we learnt about the prefix DiaDia represents  the meanings through; across; apartToday we shall see the prefixed Dis and Dif. Happy Reading :)

Day 21 : Dis; Dif

  • dis; dif - not; apart; the opposite of
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • difficult (adjective) = not easy
    • dif (dis) - Prfix = not 
    • ficult (facultas) - Root = ability; opportunity
  • disadvantage (noun) = an unfavorable circumstances / "apart" from having an advantage
    • dis - Prefix = the opposite of / apart from
    • advant (avant) - Root = before
    • age - Suffix = the state of
Let's have a look at some more words with dis; difprefixes, for better understanding.
  • different = not the same as somebody / something
  • distant = stand “apart”
  • dissimilar = “apart” from being similar
  • distract = draw “apart”
  • disrupt = break “apart”
  • disorder = “apart” from orderliness
  • disquiet = “apart” from quiet
  • disappear = “apart” from being present
  • disease = “apart” from ease
  • disinter = to take “apart” from being in the ground
  • dislocate = to take “apart” from the usual location
  • distrust = “apart” from being trustworthy
  • disinterested = “apart” from being interested
  • disband = when a band of people go “apart” from each other
  • discomfort = being “apart” from feeling comfortable
  • discredit = to refuse to accept
  • disabled = to be deprived of use
  • discourage = to take away hope
  • dissolved = melted away, broken up
  • diffract = change in the directions and intensities of a group of waves 
  • diffuse = not concentrated / spread out over a large area
