According to the National Family Health Survey (2015-16), Assam recorded the highest maternal mortality rate in the country for the tenth successive year. While Assam registered 300 maternal deaths per one lakh live births, the national average was 167. The survey also found 46% of Assam's women in the 15-49 age group to be anaemic.
