- Reform - make changes in something in order to improve it
- Sigh of relief - to suddenly feel very happy because something unpleasant has not happened or has ended
- Intransigence - refusing to change your opinions or behaviour
- Emerging - starting to exist
- Accrue - received by someone in increasing amounts
- Wrested - to get something with effort or difficulty
- Haircut - a reduction in an amount of money
- Consequently - as a result
- Alongside - together (in cooperation with)
- Ratifying - to make an agreement official
- Wrangling - a long complicated argument
- Leave a bitter taste in the mouth - unpleasant / bad experience
- Revolt - to take violent action against government or ruler
- Prospect - the possibility that something good might happen in the future
- Reverting - returning
- Woes - troubles (things that cause sorrow or distress)
- Assault - a physical attack
- Allegation - a statement, made without giving proof, that someone has done something wrong or illegal
- Erupted - to start suddenly and violently
- Provenance - the place of origin of something
- Underscored - gave extra importance
- Obstructionism - the act of intentionally stopping or slowing down an official process
- Negotiations - discussion aimed at reaching an agreement
- Threatening - warning
- Veto - to refuse to allow something
- Repealed - officially cancelled
- Relent - to influence or pressure
- Persuasion - to make someone do or believe something by giving them a good reason to do it
- Inaction - failure to do anything that might provide a solution to a problem
- Pound of flesh - something that you have the right to receive but is unreasonable to demand from someone
- Acquiesces - to accept or agree to something unwillingly
- Rescind - officially cancelled
- Loophole - a small mistake in something that will help others to make use of it

- Draconian - laws or rules that are really harsh
- Provision - the act of providing something
- Assent - approval
- Apparent - clearly visible or understood
- Admissible - admissible
- Afresh - in a new or different way
- Prevail - to get control or influence
- Delegate - to give a particular job, duty etc. to someone else so that they do it for you
- Disruptive - causing trouble and stopping something from continuing as usual:
- Lapse - a temporary failure
- Prone - likely to suffer from something
- Amendments - minor changes
- Curb - to control or limit something that is not wanted
- Invoke - to use a law in order to achieve something
- Miserably - in a way that is very unpleasant and makes you unhappy / disappointed
- Mockery - an action or event that seems stupid and without value
- To combat - to fight
- Detriment - harm / damage
