The winner's name of Nobel Prize in Literature for the year 2015 was announced. Belarusian writer and journalist Svetlana Alexievich has won the 2015 Nobel Prize for literature. Her best known works in English translation included Voices From Chernobyl, an oral history of the nuclear catastrophe; and Zinky Boys, a collection of first-hand accounts from the Soviet-Afghan war. Alexievich is a political writer who is critical of her home country's government.
Important Point to Note : She becomes the 14th woman to win the prize since it was first awarded in 1901. The last woman to win, Canada’s Alice Munro, was handed the award in 2013.
The prize committee called her writing a monument to courage and suffering in our time.
