International Affairs
  • Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is on a two-day visit to Egypt.
    • Today she held talks on bilateral relations with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi and her counterpart Sameh Hassan Shoukry in Cairo.
    • Important Note : During this visit, India and Egypt sign MoUs on Scientific and Technical Cooperation and Tourism.

National Affairs

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Birth Centenary Celebrations of the legendary woman freedom fighter from the North-east, Rani Gaidinliu, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi today. 
    • The Prime Minister also issued a commemorative coin of hundred rupees and circulation coin of five rupees on Rani Gaidinliu.

Business & Economy
  • Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is on a three-day visit to Khatmandu (Nepal).
    • During this visit he met Nepalese Minister of Commerce and Supplies Sunil Bahadur Thapa.
    • India and Nepal signed an agreement to lay an oil pipeline from Raxaul in Bihar to Amlekhgunj in Nepal to supply petrol, diesel and ATF to the land-locked Himalayan Kingdom. 
    • The 41 kilometre pipeline - 2 km in India and 39 km in Nepal - will initially supply petrol, diesel and kerosene. 
    • It will be built by IOC (Indian Oil Corporation) at a cost of Rs 200 crore.
    • Note : This will be the first trans-national petroleum pipeline in South Asia.

Awards & Honors
  • Zaina Erhaim,  a Syria-based journalist who has trained citizen reporters in the war-ravaged country has won 2015 Peter Mackler Award for Courageous and Ethical Journalism.

Sports
  • India win against Sri Lanka by 278 runs in Colombo cricket test.
  • Sri Lankan cricketer Kumara Sangakkara bids farewell to International cricket.
    • Note : He was immediately offered the post of Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to the UK after his farewell Test match.
  • Swiss professional tennis player Roger Federer beat world number one Novak Djokovic to win his seventh Cincinnati Masters title.
