The World Giving Index (WGI) is the report which is published on an annual basis by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). The data which is collected from Gallup is utilized by the Charities Aid Foundation to rank the various countries of the World on the basis of their charitable nature.
In the year 2010, the first report came out. This year the report has covered almost 1.3 million individuals from more than 128 countries. And this is the biggest survey ever produced.
As evident from the report of this year, over 2.5 billion people have helped strangers, by one way or the other. Out of the top 10 countries, the African countries account for 7 among them.
Fifty per cent of the countries in the World Giving Index 2019 are Asian countries. It is seen from the report that the common denizens of Myanmar have a greater tendency to donate money for charitable purposes.
The rank of India in the list: India has succeeded in securing the rank of 82 out of the 128 countries. It can be clearly seen that India has not performed very well in the scores. One among every four persons donated money and one in every five people in India devoted time for others. It can be concluded that India has failed to match the pace of all Asian countries.
