President Ram Nath Kovind today appointed Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde (S A Bobde), the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI). The 63 year old is going to replace Ranjan Gogoi. He will take oah on 18th November 2019. He will have a tenure of 17 months and would demit office on 23rd April 2021.
Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had recommended the name of the next senior ost judge in the Supreme Court pecking order, Justice Bobde, as his successor as per convention. Bobde was born in
Nagpur. He comes from a family of eminent jurists. He has been part of Supreme Court benches that have given landmark judgements.
Important Note : With this appointment Mr. Bobde becomes the 47th Chief Justice of India.
