USURIOUS (adjective)
Meaning: rate of interest that is unfairly high.
Synonyms: avaricious, acquisitive, rapacious, covetous.
Antonyms: affordable, moderate, generous, undulating.
Example: Can you lend to the poor without charging usurious interest?

GRANULAR (adjective) 
Meaning: Resembling or consisting of small grains or particles.
Synonyms: powdery, grainy, gritty, sandy.
Antonyms: soft, fine, smooth, glossy.
Example: In the dry state, granular soil particles can be easily separated and identified.


CONTRAVENTION (noun) 
Meaning: An action which offends against a law, treaty, or other rulings.
Synonyms: breach, violation, infringement, transgression.
Antonyms: compliance, conformity, obedience, adoption.
Example: These powers must be exercised in consideration of the likelihood of damage or distress caused by the contravention of the Act.

ABHORRENT (Adjective) 
Meaning: inspiring disgust and loathing; repugnant.
Synonyms: detestable, hateful, abominable, repugnant
Antonyms: acceptable, agreeable, alluring, delightful
Example: Jack’s abhorrent behavior caused him to get kicked out of the restaurant.

TYPIFY (Verb)
Meaning: be characteristic or a representative example of.
Synonyms: epitomize, exemplify, characterize; personify, embody
Example: With his blond, blue-eyed athletic looks, he typifies the all-American boy next door.

INGRESS (Noun) 
Meaning: the action or fact of going in or entering; the capacity or right of the entrance.
Synonyms: entrance, access, admittance, approach
Antonyms: egress, exit
Example: If you sit in front of the doorway, you are creating a safety hazard by blocking the path of ingress into the hospital.

 LANGUISH(Verb)
Meaning: to exist in an unpleasant or unwanted situation, often for a long time
Synonyms: decay, weaken
Antonyms: fortify, strengthen
Example: After languishing in obscurity for many years, her early novels have recently been rediscovered.

DEFIANCE(Noun)
Meaning: behavior in which you refuse to obey someone or something
Synonyms: balkiness, forwardness
Antonyms: compliance, submission
Example: In defiance of the ceasefire, rebel troops are again firing on the capital.

FORAY(Noun)
Meaning: a short visit, especially with a known purpose
Synonyms: descent, invasion
Antonyms: leave, abstention
Example: I made a quick foray into town before lunch to get my sister a present.
