RICKETY (adjective) 
Meaning: (of a structure or piece of equipment) poorly made and likely to collapse. 
Synonyms: dilapidated, ramshackle, derelict, ruinous.
Antonyms: stable, sturdy, durable, strong.
Usage: She then directed them to the fourth floor, giving them the choice of the stairs or a rickety lift.

FORECLOSE (verb) 
Meaning: Rule out or prevent (a course of action).
Synonyms: preclude, prevent, remove, avert.
Antonyms: unbound, permit, allot, co-operate.
Usage:  The decision effectively foreclosed any possibility of his early rehabilitation.

SLUMP (noun) 
Meaning: A sudden severe or prolonged fall in the price, value, or amount of something.
Synonyms: decrease, lowering, devaluation, depreciation
Antonyms: upturn, growth, progress, surge.
Usage: The slump in prices was largely attributed to inferior quality tea being produced by various India gardens.

PRISE (Verb) 
Meaning: use force in order to move, move apart, or open (something).
Synonyms: force, wrench, twist
Usage: Joe was trying to prise the cap off a bottle of painkillers

DENUDE (Verb) 
Meaning: strip (something) of its covering, possessions, or assets.
Synonyms: divest, deprive, bare, uncover
Antonyms: cover
Usage: He proceeded to denude the statue, fronting the church bishop's podium.

TORMENT (Noun) 
Meaning: severe physical or mental suffering.
Synonyms: suffering, torture, pain, anguish
Antonyms: pleasure, joy
Usage: Every day when he got on the bus, the bully began to torment the quiet child.

CONFOUND(Verb)
Meaning: to mix up or confuse
Synonyms: confuse, puzzle
Antonyms: confirm, verify
Usage: Without instructions, this unusual game will confound anyone.

ALLEVIATE(Verb)
Meaning: to make something less painful, severe, or serious
Synonyms: help, soothe
Antonyms: aggravate, exacerbate
Usage: If you want to alleviate the situation, start by apologizing for your mistake.

EQUANIMITY(Noun)
Meaning: to stay calm, especially under stress; to maintain composure
Synonyms: calmness, cool
Antonyms: agitation, discomposure
Usage: During the horrible storm, it was hard for us to focus on and maintain our equanimity.
