Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1. SEDITION (noun) राज-द्रोह
Meaning: conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch.
Synonyms: incitement, fomentation, provocation, agitation.
Antonyms: submission, appeasement, homage, devotion.
Usage: The extended geographical jurisdiction for offences is being used here not just to cover sedition, but also treason.
2.  CARTEL (noun)  उत्पादक संघ
Meaning: an association of manufacturers or suppliers with the purpose of maintaining prices at a high level and restricting competition.
Synonyms: consortium, alliance, union, confederation.
Antonyms: agnosticism, disunion, separation, distribution.
Usage: In their attempts to stem cut-throat price competition, railway leaders repeatedly formed cartels to set prices and allocate traffic.
3. PECULIARITY (noun) विलक्षणता
Meaning: a strange or unusual feature or habit.
Synonyms: abnormality, eccentricity, idiosyncrasy, oddity.
Antonyms: commonness, casual, normalcy, convention.
Usage: One peculiarity of this artist's pictures was that he used actual gold leaf to make the high lights upon hair, leaves, and draperies.
4. DENT (noun) कटाव
Meaning: a reduction in amount or size.
Synonyms: reduction, depletion, deduction, cut.
Antonyms: boost, enlargement, gain, increase.
Usage: Both increased capacity and competition will allow consumers to pay less, putting a dent into corporate profits.
5. EXTERNALITY (noun) बाह्यता
Meaning: a consequence of an industrial or commercial activity which affects other parties without this being reflected in market prices.
Synonyms: upshot, effect, repercussion, reverberations.
Antonyms: origin, root, source, cause.
Usage: Network externalities occur when markets characterized by network effects fail to allocate resources properly.
6. LEEWAY (noun) स्वतंत्रता
Meaning: the amount of freedom to move or act that is available.
Synonyms: scope, flexibility, liberty, indulgence.
Antonyms: constraint, restriction, inflexibleness, extremism.
Usage: Certainly, the government deserves a significant amount of leeway when it comes to endorsing the current administration.
7. DIRECTIVE (noun) आदेश
Meaning: an official or authoritative instruction.
Synonyms: injunction, enjoinment, prescription, command.
Antonyms: entreaty, petition, plea, appeal.
Usage: The US government has no authority to issue directives to the country's courts.
8. MISGIVING (noun) संदेह
Meaning: a feeling of doubt or apprehension about the outcome or consequences of something.
Synonyms: qualm, doubt, reservation, scruple.
Antonyms: assurance, certainty, certitude, conviction.
Usage: Despite my misgivings, I picked up a box of these today when I filled the new prescription.
9. DEMISE (noun) अंत
Meaning: the end or failure of an enterprise or institution.
Synonyms: disintegration, fall, downfall, ruin.
Antonyms: commencement, onset, launch, inception.
Usage: The services sector is all some regions in the UK have left after the demise of the manufacturing industry.
10. PROSPECT (noun) संभावना
Meaning: the possibility or likelihood of some future event occurring.
Synonyms: expectation, anticipation, chance, probability.
Antonyms: actuality, reality, certainty, doubtfulness.
Usage: Maybe the prospect of the landscape turning into a tourist facility will force a political change in the end.
