Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1.UNCHARTED (adjective) न सुलझा हुआ
Meaning: (of an area of land or sea) not mapped or surveyed.
Synonyms: unexplored, undiscovered, unfamiliar, unplumbed.
Antonyms: familiar, famous, commonplace, known.
Usage: Twice more he struck as if he was securing a flagpole into the soil of a previously uncharted land.

2. PREPARATORY (adjective) आरम्भ करने वाला
Meaning: serving as or carrying out preparation for a task or undertaking.
Synonyms: preliminary, prior, introductory, prefatory.
Antonyms: conclusive, ultimate, decisive, consequent.
Usage: Agriculture and economic policy have their own special preparatory committees.

3. GRAFT (noun) घूस
Meaning: bribery and other corrupt practices used to secure illicit advantages or gains in politics or business.
Synonyms: corruption, dishonesty, fraudulence, subornation.
Antonyms: incorruptibility, honesty, sterility, probity.
Usage: Public procurement laws also need urgent reform to prevent graft and corruption.

4. POGROM (noun) तबाही
Meaning: massacre, mass murder.
Synonyms: holocaust, slaughter, decimation, carnage.
Antonyms: relief, rescue, refuge, support.
Usage: It is unthinkable that anyone could design a pogrom as a means for eliminating a group of people.

5. MAINSTAY (noun) आधार
Meaning: a person or thing on which something else is based or depends.
Synonyms: cornerstone, bulwark, buttress, bastion.
Antonyms: antagonist, opponent, enemy.
Usage: Smith was a mainstay of the club's success this season with his running from defence and solid tackling.

6. FRAY (noun) दंगा
Meaning: a battle or fight.
Synonyms: skirmish, altercation, tussle, struggle.
Antonyms: agreement, truce, harmony, tranquility.
Usage: Police officers pushed several against cars to separate them from the fray as the fight spilled into a parking garage.

7. INFLAMMATORY (adjective) भड़काऊ
Meaning: (especially of speech or writing) arousing or intended to arouse angry or violent feelings.
Synonyms: provoking, inciting, agitating, stirring,
Antonyms: placating, mitigating, assuaging, soothing.
Usage: She suggested that the councillor should step down as his remarks were clearly inflammatory.

8. DIRECTIVE (noun) आदेश
Meaning: an official or authoritative instruction.
Synonyms: injunction, enjoinment, prescription, command.
Antonyms: entreaty, petition, plea, appeal.
Usage: The US government has no authority to issue directives to the country's courts.

9. MISGIVING (noun) संदेह
Meaning: a feeling of doubt or apprehension about the outcome or consequences of something.
Synonyms: qualm, doubt, reservation, scruple.
Antonyms: assurance, certainty, certitude, conviction.
Usage: Despite my misgivings, I picked up a box of these today when I filled the new prescription.

10. HOBBLE (verb) लंगड़ाना
Meaning: walk in an awkward way, typically because of pain from an injury.
Synonyms: totter, dodder, falter, lurch.
Antonyms: breeze, glide, sail, stride.
Usage: And the Olympic silver medallist in Sydney looked to be in considerable pain as he hobbled off the track.
