Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. It becomes very important to learn ample amount of words for the upcoming Government Job Exams. You can learn new words daily from our Daily Word List . Here is a list of words from daily Editorials. 1. SCUFFLE (noun): हाथापाई
Meaning: a physical dispute between opposing individuals or groups
Synonyms: clash, fracas, fray, hassle.
Antonyms: truce, agreement, accordance, peace.
Usage: It is expected for the friends to get into a light scuffle over their chores, but no one got hurt.

2. SMATTERING (noun): कम संख्या में
Meaning: a small number
Synonyms: couple, few, handful, sprinkle.
Antonyms: horde, legion, loads, multitude.
Usage: He spoke a smattering of words she didn’t understand.

3. LUNACY (noun): पागलपन
Meaning: a foolish act or idea
Synonyms: absurdity, fatuity, imbecility, inanity.
Antonyms: discretion, prudence, sagacity, wisdom.
Usage: With bizarre behavior from the loud singing woman, the neighbors realized the lunacy that the woman had.

4. BACKLASH (noun): प्रतिक्रिया
Meaning: a strong negative reaction by a large number of people, especially to a social or political
development.
Synonyms: ricochet, counteraction, retaliation, reverberation.
Antonyms: decertify, forbid, invalidate, cause.
Usage: The president received backlash from thousands of people who disagreed with his Twitter
statements.

5. STREW (verb): बिखेरना
Meaning: scatter or spread (things) untidily over a surface or area.
Synonyms: scatter, stipple, spatter, disperse.
Antonyms: centralize, concentrate, accumulate, collect.
Usage: Environmentalists were saddened to see people strew litter everywhere in the medians of the
highways.

6. VEST (verb): किसी को (शक्ति, प्राधिकरण, संपत्ति, आदि) प्रदान करना
Meaning: confer or bestow (power, authority, property, etc.) on someone.
Synonyms: entrust, bestow, confer, grant.
Antonyms: retain, hold back, reserve, withhold.
Usage: Citizens of the United States have the vested right to freedom of speech.

7. DURESS (noun): अवरोध
Meaning: threats, violence, constraints, or other action used to coerce someone into doing something
against their will or better judgement.
Synonyms: coercion, compulsion, pressurization, enforcement.
Antonyms: agreement, approval, consent, persuasion.
Usage: I think Harry was under duress when she signed the agreement; he never would have voluntarily accepted those conditions.

8. SMUG (adjective): आत्मसंतुष्ट
Meaning: having or showing an excessive pride in oneself or one’s achievements.
Synonyms: bighead, conceitedness, ego, vainglory.
Antonyms: diffidence, bashfulness, demureness, shyness.
Usage: Because Rohit had a smug attitude during his meeting with the principal, he projected the image he was proud of his misdeeds.

9. UPKEEP (noun): अनुरक्षण
Meaning: the act or activity of keeping something in an existing and usually satisfactory condition.
Synonyms: maintenance, protection, preservation, conservation.
Antonyms: dereliction, negligence, damage, demolition.
Usage: The business house will spend Rs. 35 crore over the next 5 years on the fort’s upkeep.

10. GNAW (verb): कष्ट देना
Meaning: cause persistent distress or anxiety.
Synonyms: nag, torment, bother, fret.
Antonyms: mitigate, pacify, assist, ameliorate.
Usage: Maybe you choose to seethe silently about something, letting it gnaw away at you.
