Daily Vocabulary for Bank Exams: 18th January 2019

Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1. FORBID : निषेध करना
Meaning:to refuse to allow something
Synonyms:ban, block
Antonyms:add, admit
Example:City Ordinance 126 forbids car parking in this area of New York.

2. NOSTALGIC : उदासीन
Meaning:feeling happy and also slightly sad when you think about things that happened in the past
Synonyms:regretful, sentimental
Antonyms: happy
Example:Talking about our old family holidays has made me feel all nostalgic.

3. EMANCIPATE : स्वतंत्र करना
Meaning:to give people social or political freedom and rights
Synonyms:liberate, loosen
Antonyms:detain, hold
Example:It neither made him to be human to his slaves, nor to emancipate them.

4. RIGID : कठोर
Meaning:not able to be changed or persuaded
Synonyms:stern, unchanged
Antonyms:flexible
Example:We were disappointed that they insisted on such a rigid interpretation of the rules.

5. ADORATION : आराधना
Meaning:deep love, devotion, and respect
Synonyms: love, affection
Antonyms: hatred, dislike
Example:She smiled in adoration of the picture her daughter drew for her.

6. COMPLIANCE : अनुपालन
Meaning:the act of obeying rules
Synonyms: conforment, consent
Antonyms:difference, refusal
Example:In the army, there are harsh consequences for soldiers who are not in compliance with military laws.

7. IDOLIZE : अति प्रेम करना
Meaning:to adore, admire, or love greatly
Synonyms:admire, acknowledge
Antonyms:dislike, disrespect
Example:She wanted someone to idolize her for her strong work ethic.

8. CIVILITY : शिष्टाचार
Meaning:politeness
Synonyms:comity, decorum
Antonyms:rudeness
Example:Men were considered gentlemen by their behavior, but now the civility has worn off.

9. EXALT : सराहना करना
Meaning:to glorify or place above others
Synonyms:dignify, glorify
Antonyms:blame, condemn
Example:For a fee, most celebrities will exalt a product by pretending to like it.

10. REVERE : श्रधा
Meaning:to regard someone or something with great respect or devotion
Synonyms:admire, adore
Antonyms:criticize
Example:It’s a sad truth that many Americans revere movie stars and sports figures as demi-gods.
