  • The World talent ranking 2018 was published by IMD. The report is being published since 2014. It ranks 63 countries on three factors those are investment and development, appeal and readiness. The countries mostly have a high or middle level of per capita income. 

Key Findings

  • Most successful countries in talent competitiveness are European, mid-size economies with high level of investment in education and quality of life. 
  • It also signifies that wealth of country is not the sole driver of talent competitiveness and the factors such as social progress and quality of institutions are also responsible. 
  • Top-ranked countries 
    • Switzerland (Score – 100) 
    • Denmark (91.97)
    • Norway (86.37) 
    • Austria (86.10) 
    • Netherlands (85.25) 
  • Switzerland has topped the ranking for the fifth year in a row. 
  • Canada which is placed at 6th is the only non-European country in top ten. 
  • Countries in the top-10 generally share high levels of investments in public education and a high quality of life, which allows them both to develop local human capital and to attract highly skilled professionals from abroad. 

Performance of India

  • India slipped two places from its ranking of 55 in 2017 to 53 in 2018. 
  • The rankings of India in investment and development, appeal and readiness are 63, 44 and 30 respectively.
