IBPS SO Prelims Exam is scheduled to be held on 29th and 30th of the next month. That means you are still left with a week to give the final touch to your preparations for this exam. IBPS PO Mains exam was conducted in the last month and we got to see a variety of new pattern questions on the question paper. That the pattern is only getting complex and convoluted day by day, English Language is a section that nobody can give a cold shoulder to. The total number of questions in the English Language Section of IBPS SO Prelims Examination 2018 will be 50.

The trick to scoring good marks in English Section can vary from one person to another depending on her strengths and weaknesses. If your basics are clear, you can easily bag good marks in this section. Sometimes, even those, who can communicate very well in English, fail to perform to the best of their ability in competitive exams. So, try building up a strong vocabulary, an effective knowledge of grammar, and efficient comprehension skills so as to be on the ball to attempt this section of IBPS SO Prelims Examination. Here are the most important topics that are likely to be asked in IBPS SO Prelims Examination 2018.

If you are not so good at grammar, then, you should attempt the reading comprehension first and proceed with Cloze Test and other miscellaneous topics like Error Detection, Para Jumbles, Phrase Replacement, Double Fillers, etc. Reading comprehension too should be attempted in a way that you attempt questions based on vocab and phrases first and then the questions that need a deep penetration through the paragraphs. There will be 16-20 questions based on Reading Comprehension.

Next comes the error detection portion. There will be a total of 5-10 question based on errors. To attempt maximum questions in errors, you need to work on parts of speech, adjective, and subject-verb agreement. Some errors may also be based on narration, so, if one doesn't want to miss out anything then he/she must have the knowledge of narration too. A similar topic to errors is sentence correction/ improvement. So, these tips are going to help you out with that as well.

The next important topic is Fillers. Generally, double fillers/ sentence/ multiple sentence fillers are asked that are 5 in number. But, this year there is a possibility of triple fillers also expected, as the difficulty level of exams has only been rising. For fillers, you need to work on vocabulary as most of the questions are based on vocab only.

Next important topics are odd one out, para jumbles and match the columns. You may get to see a total of 8-10 questions based on them. The good thing about para jumbles is that you can manage to do it even if you are weak in English, simply by making use of common sense, as it doesn't test your grammar or vocabulary, you just need to find the connection between two parts. Also, keep in mind that there has to be a continuation in the paragraph when you rearrange the sentences.
