Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "The Michel test case: on India’s extradition track record"
- Extradition - to make someone return for trial to another country or state where they have been accused of doing something illegal
- Diplomatic - relating to the profession or skill of preserving or creating friendly relationships between countries
- Tout - to praise someone or something because you want other people to think they are good or important
- Alleged - claimed to be true, even though this has not been proved
- Middleman - someone who helps to arrange business deals and discussions between other people
- Bribe - to give money or presents to someone so that they will help you by doing something dishonest or illegal
- Fugitive - someone who has done something illegal and is trying to avoid being caught by the police
- Treaty - an official written agreement between two or more countries
- Amenable - willing to do something or to agree with someone
- Deport - to send someone out of a country, usually because they do not have a legal right to be there
- Perception - a particular way of understanding or thinking about something
- High-profile - often seen in public, mentioned in newspapers, or appearing on television
- Accused - the person who is on trial in a law court
- Sentence - when a judge sentences someone, they officially state what someone’s punishment will be
- Embarrassment - a feeling of being nervous or ashamed because of what people know or think about you
- Juncture - a stage in a process or activity
- Campaign - a series of actions intended to produce political or social change
- Single-minded - with your attention fixed on only one thing
- Short-sighted - dealing with things that are happening now but failing to consider what will happen in the future
- Scrutiny - careful examination of someone or something
- Adhere to - to obey a rule, law, agreement etc
- Strenuous - a strenuous activity is one in which it is necessary for you to use a lot of effort, energy, or strength
- Consul - a government official sent to live in another country and look after their own country’s citizens and business interests there
- Obligation - something that you must do for legal or moral reasons
- Impact - an effect, or an influence
- Politicisation - to bring an issue, organization, way of doing something etc to the attention of the public so that it can be discussed
- Bolster - to make something stronger or more effective
- Ensure - to make certain that something happens or is done
- Expeditious - quick and effective

- Uneasy - someone who feels uneasy feels slightly nervous, worried, or upset about something
- Truce - an agreement between two people or groups involved in a war, fight, or disagreement to stop it for a period of time
- Executive - a senior manager in a business or other organization
- Threaten - to be likely to harm or destroy something
- Tariff - a tax that a government charges on goods that enter or leave their country
- Thaw - to become more friendly
- Fragile - easy to break or damage

- Former - used for describing someone or something that had a particular job, title, status etc in the past, but not now

- Breach - to break a law, rule, or agreement
- Sanction - an official order to stop communication, trade, etc with a country that has broken international law
- Concerned - worried about something
- Giant - a very large and successful company
- Flare up - if fighting or trouble flares, it begins or becomes worse
- Determine - to control what something will be
- Legitimate - allowed by the law, or correct according to the law
- Alleged - claimed to be true, even though this has not been proved
- Espionage - attempts to discover your enemy’s political, military, or industrial secrets using secret methods
- Radical - a radical person or group believes that important political or social changes are necessary
- Exaggerate - to describe something in a way that makes it seem better, worse, larger, more important etc than it really is
- Protectionist - protectionist laws or methods are intended to help a country's trade or industry by putting taxes on goods bought from other countries or by limiting the amount of goods that can be imported
- Exert - to use influence, authority, or power in order to affect or achieve something
- Assault - a strong criticism
- Accusation - a claim that someone has done something illegal or wrong
- Violate - to do something that is in opposition to a law, agreement, principle etc
- Tacit - expressed or understood without being said directly
- Rapid - happening, moving, or acting quickly
- Escalation - an increase in the intensity or seriousness of something
- Lasting - continuing to exist or have an effect for a long time
