Hindu Editorial Topic 1 :  "Five States: on upcoming Assembly polls"
  • Forecast - a statement about what is likely to happen, based on available information and usually relating to the weather, business, or the economy
  • Pointer - something that shows you an existing or developing situation
  • Witness - to see something happen
  • Principal - main, or most important
  • Campaign - a series of actions intended to produce political or social change
  • Morale - the amount of enthusiasm that a person or group of people feel about their situation at a particular time
  • Functionary - an official who works for a government or a political party, especially one with unimportant or boring office duties
  • Particularity - great attention to detail

  • Overwhelmingly - used for emphasizing the amount or strength of something
  • Cash in - to use an opportunity to make a profit or gain an advantage
  • Perception - a particular way of understanding or thinking about something
  • Unreasonable - not fair
  • Incumbency - an official position
  • Dissolution - the process of officially ending the existence of a group or organization
  • Uncouple - to separate two things, or to become separate
  • Proximate - closest or most direct
  • Result in - to cause something, or to produce something
  • Surge - a sudden increase in the strength of a feeling
  • Surviving - still alive or remaining after others are dead or destroyed
  • Landmine - a bomb hidden under the ground that explodes when a person or vehicle moves over it
  • Drastic - a drastic action or change has a very big effect
  • Volatile - a volatile situation can suddenly change or become more dangerous
  • Encroach upon - to gradually take something such as power or authority from someone else
  • Scrutiny - careful examination of someone or something
  • Allege - to say that something is true or that someone has done something wrong or illegal, even though this has not been proved
  • Put off - to delay doing something, especially because you do not want to do it
  • Rlly - a public meeting that a lot of people go to in order to support someone or something or to protest against someone or something
  • Postponement - a delay to an event because someone plans or decides that it should happen at a later date or time
  • Defer - to arrange for something to happen at a later time than you had planned
  • Citing - to mention something as an example, explanation, or proof of something else
  • Monsoon - a period of heavy rain in India and Southeast Asia
  • Above all - used for referring to something that is more important than any of the other things you could mention
  • Suspicion - a feeling that someone has done something wrong

  • Republican - someone who supports the idea of a republic as a system of government
  • Republic - a country that is ruled by a president or other leader that people vote for, rather than by a king or queen

  • Nomination - an official suggestion that someone should get a job or a prize, or the decision to give them a job or a prize
  • Conservative - not willing to accept much change, especially in the traditional values of society

  • Narrow - limited in range or variety
  • Nominee - someone who has been officially suggested for a job or a prize

  • Predetermined - happening or developing in a particular way because of things that have existed, happened, or been decided before
  • Constraint - something that limits your freedom to do what you want
  • Conclusive evidence - conclusive evidence, proof, or information proves that something is true
  • Wrongdoing - behaviour that is illegal or not moral
  • Swing voter - a voter who has not decided who to vote for in an election
  • Contentious - causing disagreement between people or groups
  • Legality - the fact that something is legal
  • Affordable - cheap enough for ordinary people to afford
  • Jurisprudence - the system of laws that exists in a particular place or that affects a particular area of activity
  • Rightward - on or towards the right
  • Tilt - to move something so that one side is lower than the other
  • SCOTUS - acronym for the Supreme Court Of The United States
  • Intensify - if something intensifies, or if you intensify it, it becomes greater, stronger, or more extreme
  • On the brink of - the point in time when something very bad or very good is about to happen
  • Epoch - a long period of time in the history of a people or place
  • Herald - a sign that something is going to happen soon
  • Rollback - an occasion when the influence of particular laws, rules, etc. is reduced
  • Hard-fought - fought with a lot of effort, especially against a very determined opponent
  • Reproductive - relating to the process of having babies or producing young animals or plants
  • LGBTQ - Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans(gender) and Queer: used to refer to people with those sexual and gender identities
  • Racial - happening between people of different races
  • Ethnic - relating to a group of people who have the same culture and traditions
  • Minority - a small number of people or things that are part of a larger group but different in some way from most of the group
  • Immigration - the process in which people enter a country in order to live there permanently
  • Reform - a change that is intended to correct a situation that is wrong or unfair, or make a system work more effectively
  • Assault - a physical attack on someone, or the crime of physically attacking someone
  • Weapon -  an object that can be used to hurt people or damage property, for example a gun, knife, or bomb
  • Abortion - a medical operation in which a developing baby is removed from a woman’s body so that it is not born alive
  • Immune - not influenced or affected by something
  • Impeach - to formally accuse a public official of a serious crime relating to their job, especially in the US
  • Evident - easy to see, notice, or understand
  • Magnitude - great size, importance, or effect
  • Reinsert - place (something) back into its previous position
