Let us know Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay!!!

Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay was an Indian Social reformer and freedom fighter. She was born on 3rd April 1903 in Mangalore, Karnataka. Kamaladevi is best known as the figure who revived Indian handicrafts, handlooms, and theatre. She is most remembered for her contribution towards Indian Independence movement and for the upliftment of the socio-economic standard of Indian women by pioneering the co-operation.

She was instrumental in setting up some of the first national institutions to archive, protect, and promote Indian dance, drama, art, puppetry, music, and handicrafts. She has been awarded the Sangeet Natak Academy Fellowship, Padma  Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Ramon Magsaysay Award. Several institutions in India, including the National School Of Drama, SangeetNatak Academy, Central Cottage Industries Emporium and the crafts council of India, exist only due to her vision and contribution.

She was one of the first to propose that women’s rights, religious freedom, environmental justice, political independence, and civil rights were all interrelated movements. She had great contributions towards the enrichment of Indian culture and today we remember this great lady on her 115th birth anniversary.
