Daily Hindu Vocabulary For Bank Aspirants

Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. You can learn new words daily from our Daily Word List. Learn the words and make your own sentences on the basis of the given word list. Here are a few lines from The Hindu.

1. HEART-RENDING (adjective) : दिल प्रतिपादन, शोकजनक
Meaning: causing great sadness or distress.
Synonyms: upsetting, disturbing, heartbreaking, tragic, painful, traumatic, agonizing, desolate, harrowing, excruciating.
Antonyms: cheering, heartwarming, inspiring, stimulating, stirring, uplifting, delightful, enjoyable, pleasing, exhilarating, thrilling.
Usage: The heart-rending scenes that he witnessed turned him into a social worker and a spiritual thinker.

2. CORUSCATE (verb) : उज्जवल होना
Meaning: (of light) flash or sparkle.
Synonyms: gleam, glimmer, glint, glisten, glister, glitter, luster, scintillate, shimmer, spangle, sparkle, twinkle.
Antonyms: converge, suffer, dullness.
Usage: The flashlight was used to coruscate a message to the other campers across the lake.

3. SUPINE (adjective) : लापरवाह
Meaning: failing to act or protest as a result of moral weakness or indolence.
Synonyms: spineless, yielding, enervated, acquiescent, pliant, submissive, servile, inactive, passive, inert, spiritless, apathetic, indifferent.
Antonyms: proactive, expeditious, strong, assertive, fecund, fervent, vivacious, thriving, tenacious.
Usage: My brother-in-law is a lazy fellow who will sleep with his head up in a supine position all day long.

4. PERAMBULATE (verb) : इधर-उधर टहलना
Meaning: to travel by foot for exercise or pleasure
Synonyms: amble, hike, ramble, saunter, stroll, tramp, tromp, traipse, meander, trudge.
Antonyms: run
Usage: They decided to take a short cut and perambulate over the large hill.

5. CONFABULATE (verb) : बातचीत करना
Meaning: to talk informally
Synonyms: backchat, cackle, chat, chitchat, gab, gossip, palaver, patter, rap, schmooze, table talk.
Antonyms: be silent, be quiet, listen.
Usage: Guests gathered in the hallway to confabulate about the weather and make small talk.

6. EERIE (adjective) : भयग्रस्त
Meaning: strange and frightening.
Synonyms: uncanny, sinister, ghostly, unnatural, unearthly, mysterious, creepy, haunting, spooky.
Antonyms: normal, ordinary, prosaic, routine, typical, unexceptional, unremarkable, usual.
Usage: An eerie feeling came over us as we watched the scary movie.

7. SUCCINCTLY (adverb) : संक्षेप
Meaning: in a brief and clearly expressed manner.
Synonyms: brief, compact, compendious, concise, crisp, curt, epigrammatic, laconic, monosyllabic, sententious, summary, terse.
Antonyms: circuitous, circumlocutory, diffuse, long-winded, prolix, rambling, verbose, windy, wordy.
Usage: The reviewer’s remarks were succinct and to the point.

8. BATHETIC (adjective) : जिसमें अचानक पतन या अपकर्ष हो
Meaning: producing an unintentional effect of anticlimax.
Synonyms: anticlimactic, disappointing, disillusioning; mawkish, sentimental, maudlin, mawkish.
Antonyms: calm, matter-of-fact, unimaginative, unemotional, unsentimental.
Usage: The movie manages to be poignant without becoming bathetic.

9. SPURT (noun) : गति में उछाल
Meaning: a sudden marked burst or increase of activity or speed.
Synonyms: gush, jet, pour, rush, spew, spout, squirt, swoosh.
Antonyms: dribble, drip, drop, trickle, spatter, sprinkle.
Usage: Year-on-year growth in output per worker spurted to 2.9 % in the second quarter.

10. PRECARIOUS (adjective) : अनिश्चित
Meaning: dependent on chance; uncertain.
Synonyms: uncertain, insecure, unreliable, unsure, unpredictable, undependable, doubtful, dubious, delicate, tricky, problematic.
Antonyms: certain, stable, firm, sure, confirmed, definite, steady, settled, sustainable.
Usage: As Finance Secretary I found that the finances of the state were in a precarious condition.’
