International Current Affairs
  • Today (12th March) is World Day against Cyber Censorship.
    • This is is an online event held each year on March 12 to rally support for a single, unrestricted Internet that is accessible to all and to draw attention to the ways that governments around the world are deterring and censoring free speech online.
    • This day was first observed on 12 March 2008 at the request of Reporters Without Borders and Amnesty International. 
  • The 1st ever Indo-French Knowledge Summit successfully  concluded with a landmark agreement on mutual recognition of educational qualifications between the two countries and a record 15 other MoUs between universities and research institutions on joint initiatives and partnerships. 
    • The summit was organized by the French Embassy in India and co-hosted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
    • The two-day summit was held in New Delhi and coincided with the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to India.
National Current Affairs
  • The West Bengal government is going to launch a project worth ₹700 crore to bring 50 lakh rural women under the Self Help Group (SHG) model
    • The scheme will work in three phases : 
      • The identification and training of the women, 
      • Providing them loans from different cooperative banks at low interest rates
      • Promoting and marketing the products of these SHGs.
  • The Union Textile Ministry has approved a proposal for setting up a  Garment university in Bengaluru's Bommanahalli.
  • The Power Ministry has directed all Central government departments and PSUs in the National Capital Region to switch to e-vehicles for local use. 
    • The move comes as the government plans to have 30% of the total vehicle fleet in the country running on batteries by 2030. 
    • Charging facilities for such vehicles are being installed at various locations, the ministry added.
  • India’s 1st National Coastal Policing Academy, National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP) to train police forces in effectively safeguarding country’s shoreline will start functioning from April 2018. 
    • It will be launched from campus of Gujarat’s Fisheries Research Centre located in coastal Okha town in Devbhumi Dwarka district of Gujarat.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Shares of Andhra Bank Ltd fell as much as 15.5% to hit a 14-year low after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a charge sheet against one of its former directors on a money laundering case.
New Appointments
  • The central government has appointed Debashish Mukherjee as an Executive Director of  Canara Bank.
    • He has been appointed for a tenure of three years. 
  • Murali Ramaswami has taken charge as Executive Director of Vijaya Bank.
  • Senior diplomat Vinay Kumar has been appointed as India’s ambassador to Afghanistan.
    • He has replaced incumbent Manpreet Vohra.
  • Anil Kumar Chaudhary  has been appointed as the Chairman of Steel Authority of India (SAIL)
  • Rangarajan Raghavan has been appointed as the new Managing Director (MD) of the HCL Infosystems.
    • He has replaced Premkumar Seshadri .
Science & Technology
  • Russia successfully launched high-precision aeroballistic Kinzhal hypersonic missile from a MiG-31 supersonic interceptor jet.
Awards & Honors
  • India won Best Exhibitor Award at ITB–Berlin World Tourist Meet convened at Berlin, Germany. 
    • More than 100 countries had participated in the mega meet with their respective Tourism Ministers.
Sports Current Affairs
  • World champions Australia won 27th edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah cup 2018 for record 10th time by defeating England .
  • India B won 45th edition of the Deodhar Trophy 2018 by defeating Karnataka in final match by 6 wickets at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
