Adjective Rules for Error Spotting

The word used to qualify noun / pronoun is called Adjective.
Example: Intelligent, Good, Blue, Red, Two etc.

Kinds of Adjective:

Proper Adjective:

This type of Adjective qualifies proper Noun.
Example: Indian, American, etc.

• Virat kohli is an Indian player. 
• Donald Trump is an American president. 

Quantitative Adjective: 

This type of Adjective qualifies quantity of material noun.
Example: A great deal of, enough, all, no, some, much etc.

• He is kind enough. 
• All the student are safe. 
• There is much water in swimming pool. 
• The baby has drunk much milk. 

Demonstrative Adjective:

It qualifies the degree of distance for Noun / Pronoun.
Example: This, That, These, Such, Any etc.

• This pen is Blue. 
• This bike is heavier than car. 
• Those politicians are good. 

Descriptive Adjective:

This kind of Adjective explains the size, characteristic, colour, type of Noun / Pronoun.
Example: Tall, Large, Tiny, Rectangular, Square, Blue, Black, Ugly, Heavy, Dry etc.

• I am a tall boy. 
• He is heavy wrestler. 
• My playground is triangular. 

Distributive Adjective:

It qualifies one object or person between two or more than two person.
Example: Each, Every, either, neither etc.

• Neither pen writes well. 
• Every child goes school. 
• Either of the Laptop works. 

Possessive Adjective:

This kind of Adjective qualifies the possession or relation of noun / pronoun.
Example: Your, My, Our, His, Her etc.

• My jacket is red but yours is blue. 
• That is your car. 
• This is my college. 

Emphasizing Adjective:

This kind of Adjective is used to make special pressure on noun / Pronoun.
Example: Own, Very, Such, Same, Very etc.

• I saw her at the Railway station with my own eyes. 
• This is my own pen. 
• This is the very thief who has stolen my smart phone. 

(very means same to that person who is already known)

Interrogative Adjective:

This kind of adjective is used to make sense of question.
Example: What, How, Where, When etc.

• Whose bike is this? 
• Which book is the best? 
• What type of laptop do you want to buy? 

Numerical adjective:

It qualifies the number of countable noun.
Example:  All, Some, No, Many, A good many, A number of etc.

• There are many books in the library. 
• A cow has four legs. 
• All the students are present in the class. 

Note: Enough, All, No, A lot of, Some etc are quantitative and numerical adjective
both, but their uses are different. (Will be discussed in rules of adjective topic)

Kinds of Numerical Adjective:

Definite numerical adjective:

Cardinal: One, Two, Three etc.
Ordinal: First, Second, Third etc.
Multiplicative: Single, Double, Triple etc.

Indefinite Numerical Adjective: 

Much, many, some, enough, a lot of, several etc.

Exclamatory Adjective:

This kind of adjective is used to express emotion of heart.
Example:  What! , How! etc.

• What a beautiful day! 
• What nonsense this is ! 
• What a kind of man he is! 
• What a nice story is! etc. 

Relative Adjective:

This kind of adjective is used to make sense of relation for Noun or Pronoun.
Example: Who, Which, That etc. 

• This is the laptop that is used for best gaming experience. 
• This the singer who sings spiritual songs. 

Present / Past participle Adjective:

This kind of Adjective is used where past or present Participle is needed.
Example:  Burning train, flying kite, Singing baby, Tiring journey, Moving car etc.

• I like a flying kite. 
• Old woman slipped down from the moving train. 
• I am fond of a tiring journey.
