International Current Affairs
- The 10th Global Forum for Food & Agriculture was recently held in Berlin (Germany).

- India was represented by Minister of State (MoS) for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
- Theme of 10th Global Forum for Food & Agriculture 2018 : "Shaping the future of livestock – sustainably, responsibly, efficiently".
- The US government has officially shut down after the Senate failed to agree on a bill to fund the government until February 16, causing the fourth government shutdown in 25 years.

- The shutdown means many government services will close down until a new budget is agreed.
- However, essential services including national security and disaster assistance will continue to run.
- In a move aimed at promoting Indian traditions abroad, India is going to offer Yoga training sessions at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

- Important Points to Note :
- More than 70 heads of states are expected to attend the WEF Summit next week.
- PM Narendra Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to attend the summit in 21 years.
New Appointments
- Former Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel will be appointed as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh.

- She will replace Gujarat Governor OP Kohli, who was given the additional charge of the office of Madhya Pradesh Governor in 2016.
National Current Affairs
- Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri today announced the commencement of India's first-ever 'Livability Index' to assess the living standard in 116 cities.

- The cities will be assessed on 15 core parameters like governance, social infrastructure, education, employment, health, and safety and security and the results will be announced in June.
- The Centre today added 9 cities including Bareilly, Silvassa and Moradabad, under its Smart Cities Mission, taking the total number of cities selected for the scheme to 99.

- The nine cities have proposed an investment of over ₹12,800 crore for undertaking around 409 infrastructural projects, including rejuvenation of water bodies, development of smarts roads and classrooms, among others.
- The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to be employed during the bypoll in Rajasthan's Ajmer, Alwar and Mandalgarh constituencies will carry photographs of candidates.

- The EVMs will also display names of the candidates and the party symbol.
- Goa hosted a film festival based on Sci-Fi genre.

- The 3rd edition of Science Film Festival 2018 was started on 16th January 2018 and ended today (20th January 2018).
- Maharashtra became 1st state to unveil Public Cloud Policy that virtually mandates state government departments to shift their data storage onto cloud.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today performed the 'Halwa' ceremony to mark the commencement of the printingprocess for Budget 2018-19.

- The Halwa ceremony is conducted to maintain the secrecy of the budget preparation process.
- After the ceremony, the Finance Ministry officials are not allowed to leave the printing press until the Budget is presented on 1st February 2018.
- Technology giant Apple has topped Fortune magazine's list of the 'World's Most Admired Companies' for 2018.

- E-commerce giant Amazon has retained its second spot, followed by Google's parent Alphabet.
Science & Technology
- India has successfully test-fired its nuclear capable surface-to-surface Agni-5 ballistic missile from a test range off the Odisha coast.

- The home-grown intercontinental range missile, with a strike range of 5,000 kilometres, is the most potent and longest range in its class in India.
- With Agni-5, India can reach almost all of China and most of Europe.
Awards & Honors
- The Minister of State for Law and Justice & Corporate Affairs, P. P. Chaudhary, has been conferred Honorary Fellowship of Institute of Company secretaries of India (ICSI).

- Mr Chaudhary has conducted around 11,000 cases, mostly Constitutional Litigations for the last 38 years on matters related to land acquisition, farmers grievances, labour & service, central excise & customs and PILs related to restoration of natural water bodies and dams.
Sports Current Affairs
- Defending champions India defeated Pakistan by 2 wickets to clinch the 5th Blind Cricket World Cup 2018.

- This is India’s second consecutive title win in the Blind Cricket World Cup.
- Pakistan has also won the title twice while South Africa won the title once.
- The Indian hockey team defeated hosts New Zealand to reach the final of the Four Nations Invitational Tournament today.

- India will now face the third-ranked team in the world, Belgium, who had earlier handed India their only loss of the tournament.
