Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Violators must pay: on fire tragedies"
- Violator - someone who breaks a law
- Tragedy - a very sad event that causes people to suffer or die
- Thoroughly - very carefully, so that nothing is missed
- Probe - to try to find out the truth about something
- Enforce - to make sure that a law or rule is obeyed by people
- Rooftop - the outside surface of the roof of a building
- Compel - to force someone to do something
- Relentless - determined, and never stopping your attempts to achieve something
- Campaign - a series of actions intended to produce political or social change
- Migrant - someone who travels to another place or country in order to find work
- Catastrophe - an event that causes a lot of damage or makes a lot of people suffer
- Befall - if something unpleasant befalls you, it happens to you
- Upmarket - upmarket services or goods are designed for people who have a lot of money
- Accountability - a situation in which people know who is responsible for something and can ask them to explain its state or quality
- Exemplary - an exemplary punishment is extremely severe, so that other people will be afraid to commit a similar crime
- Zero-tolerance - a policy of punishing people for even very minor offences by using the law in a very strict way
- Enforcement - the process of making sure that something happens, especially that people obey a law or rule
- Conscience - the ideas and feelings you have that tell you whether something you are doing is right or wrong
- Impartial - not connected to or influenced by one particular person or group
- Violate - to do something that is in opposition to a law, agreement, principle etc
- Deliberate - intended, not done by chance or by accident
- Instance - an example of something happening
- Mere - only / just
- Leniency - a punishment that is not as severe as it could be
- Igniting - to make something start to burn
- Occupant - someone who uses a room, building, area of land, seat, bed, or other place during a period of time
- Meticulous - very thorough and with careful attention to detail
- Play out - to develop or end in a particular way
- Prolong - to make something last longer
- Victim - someone who has been harmed, injured, or killed as the result of a crime
- Invoke - to use a law or rule in order to achieve something
- Stringent - stringent rules or conditions are strict and make you achieve high standards
- Commendable - deserving praise or admiration
- Indifference - lack of interest or sympathy
- Tort - an action that harms someone and for which you can be judged legally responsible although it is not a crime
- Rampant - existing, happening, or spreading in an uncontrolled way
- Brazen - behaving in a way that is not moral or socially acceptable, and not caring if other people are shocked or offended
- Benign - kind and nice
- Blatant - done in an obvious way that shows you are not embarrassed or ashamed to be doing something bad or illegal
- Complicit - involved in or knowing about something bad that happens

- Complex - something that is complex has a lot of details or small parts that make it difficult to understand or deal with
- Catalan - a person from the Catalonia region of Spain
- Outcome - the final result of a process, meeting, activity etc
- Snap election - a general election (= an election in which every adult can vote for the people who will represent them in parliament) that is called earlier than expected
- Collectively - together, as a group

- Autonomous - independent and having the power to make your own decisions
- Referendum - an occasion when everyone in a country can vote to make a decision about one particular subject
- Exile - a situation in which you are forced to live in a foreign country because you cannot live in your own country, usually for political reasons
- Coalition - a temporary union of different political parties that agree to form a government together
- Alignment - support for a group, political party, or country
- Reconciliation - a new and friendly relationship with someone who you argued with or fought with
- Meanwhile - at the same time
- Reckoning - a calculation or measurement
- Campaign - a series of actions intended to produce political or social change
- Consequence - a result or effect of something
- Favourable - showing that you like or approve of someone or something
- Minority - a smaller number or part
- Significant - very important

- Dismal - making you feel unhappy and without hope or enthusiasm
- It behoves someone to do something - used for saying that someone should do something because it is the right thing to do
- Dialogue - a process in which two people or groups have discussions in order to solve problems
- Facilitate - to make it possible or easier for something to happen
- Expediency - the use of methods that produce an immediate result or solution to a problem, but may not be fair or honest
- Divisive - likely to cause arguments between people
