CELEBRATED AT: Each year Vijay Diwas is celebrated at Eastern Command, Kolkata. 

WHY IT IS CELEBRATED: It is Celebrated to commemorate the victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan during the 1971 War that eventually led to the liberation of Bangladesh on December 16. This Vijay Diwas is celebrated because in just 13 days, Indian forces, which included the Air Force, Para Troopers, Ground Force and Navy, made Dhaka independent.

IMPORTANT BECAUSE: After this day, the birth of a new nation took place, which is now known as Bangladesh.


HISTORY BEHIND WAR: On 26 March 1971 the independence of Bangladesh was declared by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the struggle for Independence officially began. The people of Bangladesh declared independence and took part in this war to be a separate independent nation from Pakistan. Independence for Bangladesh was gained through a nine-month-long war against the Pakistan Army.The Mukti Bahini, later with military support from USSR and India, defeated the Pakistan Army ending the war on 16 December of that year.

b) Currency: Bangladeshi Taka
c) Independence Day: 26 March 1971
d) Country having largest borderline with India: Bangladesh (4,096.7 Km)
e)  Bangladesh is world's second-largest producer of jute after India and the world's largest exporter of fiber.
