  • Defection - the act of leaving a country, political party, etc. to go to another one
  • Disaffection - the state of no longer feeling loyal towards a group or organization
  • Disqualification - a situation in which someone is not allowed to take part in something because they have committed an offence or have done something that is not allowed by the rules
  • Curb - to control or limit something that is harmful
  • Opportunistic - using a situation to get power or an advantage
  • Hopping - jumping
  • Stifle - to stop something from developing normally
  • Dissent - strong disagreement
  • Dissident - someone who disagrees publicly with a government, especially in a country where this is not allowed
  • Haste - great speed in doing something because of limited time
  • Violate - to do something that is in opposition to a law, agreement, principle etc
  • Militated against something - to make something less likely to happen or succeed
  • Privilege - a special benefit that is available only to a particular person or group
  • Dispose of something - to get rid of something that you no longer need or want
  • Tantamount to something - to have the same bad qualities or effect as something else
  • Subvert -  to attack or harm a government or established system of law, politics etc
  • Threat - a situation or an activity that could cause harm or danger
  • Warrant - a document that gives someone official permission to do something
  • Fast-track - to make something happen, develop, or progress more quickly than usual
  • Voluntarily - of one's own free will
  • Rally - a public meeting that a lot of people go to in order to support someone or something or to protest against someone or something
  • Rival - a person, team, or business that competes with another
  • Contention - disagreement between people or groups
  • Alliance - an arrangement between two or more people, groups, or countries by which they agree to work together to achieve something
  • Affiliation - connection with an organization, especially a political or religious one
  • Disobey - to deliberately do the opposite of what someone in authority has told you to do, or deliberately not obey a rule
  • Whip - an official order to members of a political party to go to a particular debate and vote
  • Exhaust - to use something completely
  • Avenue -  one of the methods you can use to achieve something
  • Hue - a different type or group
  • Contentious - causing disagreement between people or groups
  • Proceedings - the actions taken, usually in court, to settle a legal matter
  • Impact - an effect, or an influence
  • Survival - the fact or state of continuing to live or exist, especially in difficult conditions
  • Invariably  - always, or almost always
  • Preside - to be in charge of an official meeting, ceremony, or other event
  • Partisan - showing strong and usually unfair support for one particular person, group, or idea
  • Necessitate - to make something necessary
  • Intervention - a situation in which someone becomes involved in a particular issue, problem etc in order to influence what happens
  • Strike a balance (between something and something) - to accept neither of two extreme positions or things but find a solution that is reasonable and fair
  • Stifle - to stop something from developing normally
  • Crisis -  an urgent, difficult, or dangerous situation
  • Endanger - to put someone or something at risk or in danger of being harmed, damaged, or destroyed
  • Despite - used for saying that something happens even though something else might have prevented it
  • Conflict - angry disagreement between people or groups
  • Dispute - a serious disagreement, especially one between groups of people that lasts for a long time
  • Annex - to take control of a country or region by force
  • Insist -  to say very firmly that something must happen or must be done
  • Resolution - a formal proposal that is considered by an organization and is usually voted on at a meeting
  • Urge - to say that something is important, good, or useful in a particular situation
  • Relocate - to move to a different place, or to make someone or something do this
  • Embassy - a group of officials who represent their government in a foreign country / the building where such officials work
  • Ethical - involving the principles used for deciding what is right and what is wrong
  • Implication - a possible effect or result
  • Negotiat - to try to reach an agreement by discussing something in a formal way, especially in a business or political situation
  • Consensus - agreement among all the people involved
  • Endorse - to express support for someone or something, especially in public
  • Bolster - to make something stronger or more effective
  • Lobby - an organized group of people who represent a particular area of business or society and try to influence politicians
  • Evangelical - relating to a form of Christianity in which church services are very lively and people express their religious beliefs in an open and enthusiastic way
  • Obviously - in a way that is clear for almost anyone to see or understand
  • Protest - a strong complaint or disagreement
  • Vital - very important, necessary, or essential
  • Roadblock - something that stops someone from making progress
  • Null and void - with no legal effect
  • Diplomatic - relating to the profession or skill of preserving or creating friendly relationships between countries
  • Gambit - something that you say or do in an attempt to gain an advantage
  • Intifada - a violent act of oppostion by the Palestinian people to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip
  • Distress - a feeling that you have when you are very unhappy, worried, or upset
  • Gradually - slowly and in small stages or amounts
  • Trusteeship - the responsibility for governing an area that the United Nations gives to a country
  • Conquer - to take control of land or people using soldiers
  • Endorse - to express support for someone or something, especially in public
  • Undermine - to make something or someone become gradually less effective, confident, or successful
  • Neutral - a country that is neutral does not get involved in a war between other countries
  • Deal a blow to - to harm, upset, or shock someone or something
