UPSC CDS Recruitment Notification 2018 (I):

UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) has released the notification for the CDS (Combined Defence Services) Examination-I 2018. Those who are eligible must apply for the esteemed exam. It's your gateway to be in the Army and serve the nation in best possible way.

Q.What are the posts available under this recruitment project for freshers?
The post which will be available in this recruitment project are given below:-

Indian Military Academy, Dehradun— 145th Course commencing in July, 2018 100 [Including 13 vacancies reserved for,NCC ‘C’ Certificate (Army Wing) holders].
Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala—Course commencing in July, 2018 Executive,(General Service) 45 [including 06 vacancies,reserved for NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders,(Naval Wing)].
Air Force Academy, Hyderabad—(Pre-Flying) Training Course commencing in August, 2018,i.e. No. 204 F(P) Course. 32
Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai—108th SSC Course (NT) (For Men) commencing in October, 2018. 225 (including 50 vacancies for NCC ‘C’ certificate holders for NCC Spl. Entry)
Officers Training Academy, Chennai—22nd SSC Women (Non-Technical) Course,commencing in October, 2018. 12


Q. How many vacancies are there?
The number of vacancies are 414. The number of vacancies given above is tentative and may be changed at any stage by Services H. Q. 

Q.What is the age criteria to apply in this common written exam?
(i) For IMA—Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January 1995 and not later than 1st January 2000 only are eligible.
(ii) For Indian Naval Academy—Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January 1995 and not later than 1st January 2000 only are eligible.
(iii) For Air Force Academy—
20 to 24 years as on 1st January, 2019 i.e. born not earlier than 2nd January, 1995 and not later than 1st January, 1999 (Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable upto 26 yrs. i.e. born not earlier than 2nd January, 1993 and not later than 1st January 1999) only are eligible.

NOTE: Candidate below 25 years of age must be unmarried. Marriage is not permitted during training. Married candidates above 25 years of age are eligible to 7 apply but during training period they will neither be provided married accommodation nor can they live with family out of the premises.

(iv) For Officers' Training Academy—(SSC Course for men) Unmarried Male candidates 2nd January, 1994 and not later than 1st January, 2000 only are eligible.
(v) For Officers' Training Academy—(SSC Women Non-Technical Course) Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible. They should have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1994 and not later than 1st January, 2000. 

NOTE : Male divorcee/widower candidates cannot be treated as unmarried male for the purpose of their admission in IMA/INA/AFA courses and accordingly they are not eligible for these courses. 

Q. Will the exam be conducted online or offline (OMR Based)?
Written Exam will be conducted in Offline mode.

Q. What is the Structure of Examination?
Selection process consists of 2 stages which are:

Exam Pattern For Admission to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy:—

Exam Pattern For Admission to Officers’ Training Academy:—

    Some Important points about Exam:-
    • The maximum marks allotted to the written examination and to the interviews will be equal for each course.
    • The papers in all the subjects will consist of objective type questions only. 
    • There will be penalty (Negative Marking,One third (0.33)) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.
    • The question papers (Test Booklets) of General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics will be set bilingually in Hindi as well as English.
    • Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In no circumstances will they be allowed the help of a scribe to write answers for them.
    • The Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination.
    • The candidates are not permitted to use calculator for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets). They should not therefore, bring the same inside the Examination Hall. 

    Intelligence and Personality Test (SSB)

    Candidates who have qualified in the written exam. Are required to Register themselves on the recruiting directorate website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in in order to enable them to receive call up for SSB interview.

    Q. What is the educational qualification required for various posts in this recruitment process?

    (i) For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy— Degree of a recognised University or equivalent.
    (ii) For Indian Naval Academy—Degree in Engineering from a recognised University/Institution.
    (iii) For Air Force Academy—Degree of a recognised University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering. 


    Q. What is the application Fee? 
    Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only) 
    Last date for submission of application: 4th December 2017 (till 6:00 PM)

    Q. Is there a criterion for negative marking?
    Yes there will be negative marking(One third (0.33)) in the written exam.
