1.Reminiscence (noun)-संस्मरण
Meaning: a story told about a past event remembered by the narrator.
Example: India is not short of memories on 1962. The India-China War ended fifty-five years ago to the day, yet each winter brings back reminiscences of the conflict.

2.Ceasefire (noun)-संघर्ष विराम
Meaning: a temporary suspension of fighting; a truce, an order or signal to stop fighting.
Example: The unilateral ceasefire that China announced on November 21, 1962, saving Assam but ending India’s chance of recovering the Aksai Chin. And above all, the scar of national humiliation at the hands of a triumphant China.

3.Erupt (verb)-फूटना
Meaning: break out suddenly and dramatically.
Synonyms: break out, flare up, blow up, boil over, start suddenly.
Example: When large-scale fighting erupted between China and India, it did not take long for NEFA’s civilian officials to realise their entire administration was in jeopardy.

4.Porous (adjective)-झरझरा, छिद्रपूर्ण
Meaning: (of a rock or other material) having minute interstices through which liquid or air may pass.
Synonyms: permeable, penetrable, pervious.
Example: China too faced an uphill struggle to concretise its hold there, and it too needed border inhabitants’ cooperation. Yet, in this porous Himalayan borderland criss-crossed by social, cultural or family ties and regular movement, people had ample opportunity to observe and compare what India and China respectively offered — both the good and the bad.

5.Avert (verb)-टालना
Meaning: turn away (one's eyes or thoughts), prevent or ward off (an undesirable occurrence).
Synonyms: turn aside, turn away, turn to one side, prevent, stop, avoid, nip in the bud
Example: The need for a strong middle ground could not be greater than it is at this point. Once the Netherlands and France averted political instability at the hands of populist and eurosceptic parties earlier this year, the outcome in Germany had appeared to be a foregone conclusion.

6.Prima Facie (adjective) -प्रथम दृष्टया
Meaning: based on the first impression; accepted as correct until proved otherwise.
Example: The authority will have its own bureaucracy — including a screening committee in each State that consumers can complain to; a standing committee in which profiteering allegations with an ‘all-India’ impact can be taken up; and an investigation wing that will vet complaints ‘with prima facie’ merit and report its findings to the NAA.

7.Errant (adjective)-भटकनेवाला
Meaning: erring or straying from the accepted course or standards.
Synonyms: offending, guilty, culpable, misbehaving, delinquent, lawless, lawbreaking, criminal, transgressing, aberrant, deviant.
Example: The authority can order businesses to reduce product prices or refund to consumers ‘undue benefits’; in extreme cases it can impose a penalty on errant firms and cancel their registration as taxpayers.

8.Rudimentary (adjective)-मौलिक
Meaning: involving or limited to basic principles, relating to an immature, undeveloped, or basic form.
Synonyms: basic, elementary, introductory, early, primary, initial, first, primitive, crude, simple, unsophisticated, rough, rough and ready, makeshift, rude.
Example: Even with all these stipulations, as of today, it is barely possible to glean, via multiple Right to Information applications, a rudimentary idea of political parties’ sources of funding. Now electoral bonds are set to eliminate even this smidgen of transparency.

9.Pernicious (adjective)-तेज़, हानिकारक
Meaning: having a harmful effect, especially in a gradual or subtle way.
Synonyms: harmful, damaging, destructive, injurious, hurtful, detrimental, deleterious, dangerous, adverse, inimical, unhealthy, unfavourable, bad, evil, baleful, wicked, malign, malevolent, malignant, noxious, poisonous, cancerous, corrupting, ruinous, deadly, lethal, fatal.
Example: By far the most pernicious feature of electoral bonds is their potential to load the dice heavily in favour of the ruling party.

10.Tranquillity (noun)-शांति
Meaning: the quality or state of being tranquil; calm.
Synonyms: peace, peacefulness, restfulness, repose, reposefulness, calm, calmness, quiet, quietness, quietude, silence, hush, noiselessness, stillness, serenity, sedateness, placidity, mildness.
Example: Both countries are “in the process of settling this issue through negotiation and consultation and seek to reach to a fair and reasonable solution acceptable to all”, Mr. Lu said. Pending final settlement, all parties should work for peace and tranquillity, he said.
