  • Messy - complicated, difficult, and unpleasant to deal with
  • Amend - to make changes to a document, law, agreement etc, especially in order to improve it
  • Insolvency - a situation in which a company or person does not have enough money to pay what they owe
  • Bankruptcy - a situation in which a person or business has officially admitted that they have no money and cannot pay what they owe
  • Ordinance - an official order by a government
  • Significantly - in a way that is easy to see or by a large amount
  • Preamble - an introduction to a document, speech, or report explaining its purpose
  • Antecedent - something that happened or existed before something else
  • Adversely - in a dangerous, harmful way
  • Impact - an effect, or an influence
  • Deem - to consider that someone or something has a particular quality
  • Creditor - a person or company that is owed money by another person or company
  • Nub - the most basic or essential part of something
  • Quibble - to argue or complain about something that is not important
  • Unscrupulous - willing to do things that are unfair, dishonest, or illegal
  • Wilful defaulter - an entity or a person that has not paid the loan back despite the ability to repay it
  • Germane - relevant to a subject that is being discussed
  • Mere - only / just
  • Liquidation - a situation in which a business closes and sells everything it owns in order to pay money that it owes
  • Framework - a system of rules, laws, agreements etc that establish the way that something operates in business, politics, or society
  • Entrepreneurship - skill in starting new businesses, especially when this involves seeing new opportunities
  • Non-performing asset - loan or advance for which the principal or interest payment remained overdue for a period of 90 days
  • Mala fide - illegal or dishonest
  • Unpredictable - changing often, in a way that is impossible to prepare for
  • Turnaround - an important change in a situation that causes it to improve

  • Downturn - a reduction in economic or business activity
  • Debt-laden - owing a lot of money or involving a lot of debt
  • Retrospective - relating to or considering things that happened in the past
  • Unintentional - not deliberate or planned
  • Throwing the baby out with the bathwater - to discard something valuable or important while disposing of something worthless

  • Coup - an occasion when a group of people takes control of a country, usually by means of military force
  • Raised the stakes - to increase the amount of something
  • Insurgency - an attempt by a group of people to take control of their country by force
  • Minority - a small number of people or things that are part of a larger group but different in some way from most of the group
  • Sect - a religious group whose beliefs are different from the beliefs of an established religion, usually in a way that most people do not approve of
  • Sectarian - caused by disagreements among people from different religious groups
  • Formidable - very impressive in size, power, or skill and therefore deserving respect and often difficult to deal with
  • Daunting - something that is daunting makes you worried because you think that it will be very difficult or dangerous to do
  • Disrupt - to interrupt something and prevent it from continuing by creating a problem
  • Terrain - an area of land
  • Grievance - a complaint about being treated in an unfair way
