Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "A symbolic victory — On the Two Leaves to EPS-OPS camp"
  • Camp - a group of people within a larger group who have the same ideas or support the same person
  • Zilch - nothing, especially none of a particular thing that you were looking for or wanted
  • Faction - a small group within a larger group, consisting of people with different opinions from the rest
  • Prospect - the possibility that something will happen
  • Protest - a strong complaint or disagreement
  • Domineering - trying to control other people and make them obey you
  • Survival - the fact or state of continuing to live or exist, especially in difficult conditions
  • Legitimacy -  the fact that something is legal
  • Merger - the process of combining two companies or organizations to form a bigger one
  • Accentuating - to emphasize something, or to make it more noticeable
  • Unlikely - not likely to happen
  • Pose - to present a difficult or dangerous situation
  • Benefaction - a donation or gift
  • Subsequently - after something else happened
  • Instance - an example of something happening
  • Rival - a person, team, or business that competes with another
  • Malevolence - to do something bad to someone
  • Fearmongering - the action of deliberately arousing public fear or alarm about a particular issue
  • Hurtling - to move very quickly in an uncontrolled way
  • Mandate - the period of time during which an elected government or official is allowed to be in power
  • Undermine -  to make something or someone become gradually less effective, confident, or successful

  • The devil is in the detail - used for saying that something may seem simple, but in fact the details are complicated and likely to cause problems
  • Repatriation - the return of someone to their own country
  • Refugee - someone who leaves their country, especially during a war or other threatening event
  • Traction -  the action of pulling something over a surface
  • Crisis -  an urgent, difficult, or dangerous situation
  • Flee - to escape from a dangerous situation or place very quickly
  • Province - one of many areas into which some countries are divided
  • Humanitarian - caring about someone who is in a very bad situation or receiving unfair treatment
  • War of words - an occasion when people or organizations criticize each other or argue in public
  • Bilateral - involving two groups or countries
  • Ceasefire - an agreement to stop fighting for a period of time, especially in order to discuss permanent peace
  • Displacement - the process of taking the place of someone or something
  • Devastated - feeling very shocked and upset
  • Presumably - used for saying that you think something is true based on what you know, although you are not really certain
  • Proactive - taking action and making changes before they need to be made, rather than waiting until problems develop
  • At stake - likely to be lost or damaged if something fails
  • Initiative - an important action that is intended to solve a problem
  • Decidedly - in a way that is impossible to doubt and easy to see
  • Perilous - very dangerous
  • Resettle - if people resettle somewhere, or if a government or other authority resettles them, they go to live in a different region or country
  • Accompany - to happen or exist while something else is happening
  • Make headway - to make progress with something that you are trying to achieve
  • Roll back -  to remove something, or to reduce the influence of something
  • Render - to provide a service, or to give help to someone or something
  • Unrest - angry or violent behaviour by people who are protesting against something
