1.Pragmatic (adjective)
Meaning: dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.
Example: The pragmatic aspect to the differences within the party exists side by side with larger “theoretical” issues.

2.Bourgeois (adjective)
Meaning: belonging to or characteristic of the middle class, typically with reference to its perceived materialistic values or conventional attitudes.
Synonyms: middle-class, property-owning, propertied, shopkeeping, member of the middle class.
Example: If the answer is more nuanced with caveats and qualifications, then it would enjoin the CPI(M) to pursue its own political goals independently of all so-called bourgeois parties.

3.Incrementalism (noun)
Meaning: belief in or advocacy of change by degrees; gradualism.
Example: Incrementalism doesn’t always work; sometimes a giant leap is the need of the hour. But with the latest comments, it appears that the other services would oppose the proposal for a CDS tooth and nail.

4.Metamorphose (verb)
Meaning: (of an insect or amphibian) undergo metamorphosis, especially into the adult form.
Example: But the threat matrix has changed since 1947 and the Indian Ocean region is fast metamorphosing into a major arena of friction, with increasing forays by the Chinese Navy and building up of regional navies with help from China.

5.Pedagogic (adjective)
Meaning: relating to teaching.
Example: The old and historically important university at Varanasi is passing through a significant moment. Educational institutions seldom serve as precise mirrors of historical change because pedagogic and administrative rituals keep their inner life tightly under control.

6.Veneer (noun)
Meaning: a thin decorative covering of fine wood applied to a coarser wood or other material, cover (something) with a decorative layer of fine wood.
Example: Rather, like Visva-Bharati, established by Rabindranath Tagore, BHU has maintained a veneer of normalcy governed by sacred customs and rituals that have nicely preserved an empty shell of a special inherited identity. 

7.Anaemic (adjective)
Meaning: lacking in colour, spirit, or vitality.
Synonyms: feeble, weak, insipid, pallid, pale, wishy-washy, vapid, bland, poor, puny, flat, inadequate.
Example: For China watchers, the popular TV series, ‘Game of Thrones’, is but an anaemic trifle when compared to the backroom intrigue and power play expected at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). 

8.Paroxysm (noun)
Meaning: a sudden attack or outburst of a particular emotion or activity.
Synonyms: spasm, attack, fit, burst, bout, convulsion, seizure, outburst, outbreak, eruption, explosion, flare-up, access
Example: The Congress will begin on October 18, accompanied by platoons of analysts in paroxysms of tea leaf-reading, attempting to decipher which men — no woman has so far been appointed to the Party’s highest body: the Politburo Standing Committee — will control the levers of power in the country that is increasingly shaping global affairs.

9.Manoeuvre (noun)
Meaning: a movement or series of moves requiring skill and care.
Synonyms: operation, exercise, activity, move, movement, action
Example: Party Congresses are held every five years. Mr. Xi took over the leadership of the CPC from his predecessor, Hu Jintao, at the 18th Congress in 2012. At the time the CPC Central Committee was packed with cadres handpicked by previous leaders, limiting Mr. Xi’s freedom of manoeuvre. But much water has flowed down the Yangtze in the half decade since, with the Chinese President rewriting the rules of institutional workings and bureaucratic promotions, as well as reshaping China’s diplomacy and sense of self in the world.

10.Smorgasbord (noun)
Meaning: a range of open sandwiches and delicacies served as hors d'oeuvres or a buffet, a wide range of something; a variety.
Example: Since coming to power, Mr. Xi has strategically centralised control by collecting a smorgasbord of titles. He not only leads the Party and military but is also head of several newly instituted bodies such as the Central Leading Group for Comprehensively Deepening Reforms and the Central National Security Commission set up to combat terrorism and separatism.
