  • Explosive - a substance or an object that can cause an explosion (blast)
  • Laden - carrying something heavy
  • Collide - if people or things collide, they crash into each other
  • Injuring - to hurt someone and cause damage to their body
  • Soft target - someone or something that is very easy to attack or criticize
  • Orchestrate - to plan and organize a complicated event or course of action, especially without being noticed, so that it achieves the result you want
  • Horrific - so shocking that it upsets you
  • Spokesperson - someone whose job is to officially represent an organization, for example in dealing with journalists
  • Blame - to say or think that someone or something is responsible for an accident, problem, or bad situation
  • Allied - connected with or working together with sometihng / someone
  • Toll - the total number of people who have been killed or hurt
  • Anticipate -  to think that something will probably happen
  • Reversal - a problem, difficulty, or failure that prevents you from being successful
  • Solidarity - the support that people in a group give each other because they have the same opinions or aims
  • Clan - a group of people who share an interest or aim
  • Revulsion - an extreme feeling of disliking someone or something
  • Intense -  very great or extreme
  • Offensive - a major military attack
  • Federal - a federal country or system is one in which individual states make their own laws, but a national government is responsible for areas such as defence and foreign policy
  • Conflict - angry disagreement between people or groups
  • Interior - the inner part of a country or region that is furthest away from its borders or coasts
  • Isolate - to prevent a country or group from communicating with, doing business with, or getting support from other countries or group
  • Wherewithal - the money and ability that give you the power to do a particular thing
  • Embolden - to give someone more confidence to do something
  • Limp - to move or continue existing with difficulty
  • Anarchy - a situation in which there is no government or no social control in a country
  • Warlord - a military leader

  • Franchise - the right to vote in elections
  • Reputation - the opinion that people have about how good or how bad someone or something is
  • Vital - very important, necessary, or essential

  • Testimony - a formal statement about something that you saw, know, or experienced, usually given in a court of law
  • Citadel - a place that seems to represent all the important aspects of an idea, method, or practice
  • Provincial -  of or relating to the parts of a country outside the capital or the large cities
  • Hostage - a person who is the prisoner of someone who threatens to kill them if they do not get what they want
  • Rein in - to control an emotion, activity, or situation to prevent it from becoming too powerful
  • Regardless - without being affected or influenced by someone or something
  • Bounty - money offered as a reward, especially for catching or killing a criminal
  • In essence - used for emphasizing what is the most important feature of something
  • Reprisal - something unpleasant that is done to punish an enemy or opponent because of something bad that they have done to you
  • Persistent - lasting for a long time or difficult to get rid of
  • Endeavour - to try to do something
  • Fall on deaf ears - if something such as a warning, a request, or an attempt to change someone’s attitude falls on deaf ears, it is completely ignored by the person who hears it
