Hai Friends I'm Kani. Here I'm sharing English Vocabulary from Editorial section of Today's Hindu News Paper dated 2nd October 2017. Happy reading :)

  • Stampede - if a group of animals or people stampede, they all start to run in a very fast uncontrolled way because they are frightened or excited
  • Preventable - capable of being prevented
  • Pedestrian - someone who is walking, especially in a town or city, instead of driving or riding
  • Ghastly - shocking in a way that frightens or upsets you
  • Staircase - a set of stairs, usually with a bar fixed on the wall or onto vertical poles at the side for you to hold on to
  • Inevitable - impossible to avoid or prevent
  • Consequence - a result or effect of something
  • Prolonged - continuing for a long time
  • Urban - relating to towns and cities, or happening there

  • Facilitate - to make it possible or easier for something to happen
  • Inexpensive - something that is inexpensive does not cost much money
  • Off-the-shelf - used to describe a product that is available immediately and does not need to be specially made to suit a particular purpose
  • Concern - something that you think is important
  • Disaster - something very bad that happens and causes a lot of damage or kills a lot of people
  • Archaic - old and no longer used
  • Commuting - to travel regularly to and from work
  • Periphery - the outer part of an area, very far from the centre
  • Peninsular - on land and away from the sea
  • Amenity - something that makes it comfortable or enjoyable to live or work somewhere
  • Civic - relating to a town or city, especially to its government and public activities
  • Lobbying - to try to influence politicians or people in authority on a particular subject
  • Skewed - opinions, ideas, or judgments that are skewed have been affected by something, making them strange or unfair
  • Bedlam - a noisy and confusing place or situation
  • Bottleneck - a specific problem in part of a process, that causes delays to the whole process
  • Adjoining - next to and connected to another building, room, area etc
  • Obstacle - a difficulty or problem that prevents you from achieving something
  • Termini - a large building where train, boat, or bus services start and finish
  • Exemplary - excellent or done in a way that other people should try to copy
  • Compensation - money that someone receives because something bad has happened to them
  • Reinforce - to make an idea, belief, or feeling stronger
  • Accountability - a situation in which people know who is responsible for something and can ask them to explain its state or quality
  • Administration - the activities involved in managing a business, organization, or institution
  • Critic - someone who does not like something and states their opinion about it
  • Regressive -  relating to behaviour that is not responsible or controlled
  • Deploy - to use something
  • Questionable - possibly not true, accurate, or complete
  • Audit - a careful examination of something
  • Randomised - to choose people or things for a test or experiment in a random way
  • Constituency - a division of a country that elects a representative to a parliament
  • Undertake -  to agree to be responsible for a job or a project and do it
  • Blanket - including or affecting everything, everyone, or all cases, in a large group or area
  • Expedite - to make something happen quickly or easily
  • Unwarranted - not fair or necessary
  • Scaremonger - a person who spreads stories that cause public fear
  • Allay - if you allay feelings such as fears, worries, or doubts, you make someone feel less afraid, worried, or full of doubt
  • Concern - a feeling of worry about something, especially one that a lot of people have about an important issue
  • Confront - to deal with a difficult situation
  • Allegation - a statement that someone has done something wrong or illegal even though this has not been proved
  • Fraud - the action of producing false documents or information in order to get what you want
  • Safeguard - to protect something or someone from being harmed or having problems
  • Tamper - to touch something that you should not touch, and to change it in some way, often because you want to spoil it
  • Hackathon - an event when computer programmers meet to create computer programs / hack computers to prove that they are not secure
  • Manipulate - to influence someone, or to control something, in a clever or dishonest way
  • Cry wolf - to keep saying that there is a problem when there is not
  • Naysayer - someone who always thinks of reasons to oppose new ideas or solutions to problems
  • Meanwhile - at the same time
  • Vet - to examine something in order to decide if it is allowed
  • Standalone - not connected to anything else, or not depending on anything else
  • Malware - software such as a virus that is designed to damage or destroy information on a computer
  • Compelling - able to persuade someone to do something
  • Revert to something - to return to a previous state or way of behaving
  • Ballot - the process of voting secretly to choose a candidate in an election or express an opinion about an issue
  • Robust - strong
  • Continually -  all the time without stopping
  • Spear-phishing - sending emails to a targeted group of people in an attempt to get important personal details from them
  • Manipulation - behaviour that influences someone or controls something in a clever or dishonest way
  • Susceptible - easily influenced or affected by something
  • Decentralise - to take power from a central government or organization and give it to several smaller and more local ones
  • Accountable - in a position where people have the right to criticize you or ask you why something happened
