⦿ Nirmala Sitharaman is the second woman to hold the post (Defence Minister) after Indira Gandhi.

⦿ 9th BRICS Summit was held in China. 

⦿ The theme of the 9th BRICS Summit is "Stronger Partnership for a better future".

⦿ The BRIC, comprising, Brazil, Russia, India and China formally came into existence in 2006 and its first Summit was held in 2009. 

⦿ South Africa was admitted in 2011 and it became BRICS.

⦿The government has issued an alert on the spread of new malware 'Locky Ransomware' that can lock computers and demand ransom for unlocking them.

⦿ Ransomware is a malicious software and the Locky Ransomware is learnt to be demanding the ransom of half Bitcoin, which at present rate is equivalent to over Rs 1.5 lakh. 

⦿ The National Nutrition Week -> 1st to 7th September.

⦿ The theme of the National Nutrition Week for 2017 is "Optimal Infant & Young Child Feeding Practices: Better Child Health".

⦿ Karnataka government will merge the existing seven health schemes to launch a unified health scheme- ‘Arogya Bhagya’.

⦿ The main theme of the ‘Arogya Bhagya’ scheme is ”Treatment First and Payment Next”.

⦿ According to the Law Ministry, the State Cabinet had given administrative sanction for the unified schemes and it will come to effect from 1st November.

⦿ Present CM of Karnataka: Siddaramaiah 

⦿ Governor of Karnataka: Vajubhai Vala

⦿ Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first wicketkeeper in world cricket to effect 100 stumpings in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

⦿ Dhoni achieved the feat in his 301st ODI in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

⦿ Former Sri Lankan Skipper Kumar Sangakkara is on the second position with 99 Stumpings on his name.
