Dear Students, SSC CGL 2017 Exam will be conducted from 1st August to 20 August 2017. For vocabulary related questions, you need to read a lot and memorize the words so that you can answer all the questions based on vocab. Your reading habit can make all the difference. If you are not able to read a newspaper for SSC Exam, here we are providing vocab words based on the Hindu newspaper editorial.

1.Gubernatorial (adjective)
Meaning: relating to a governor, particularly that of a state in the US.
Example: He is a self-made man, a trained lawyer, has a long political track record, most of it as a member or fellow traveller of the BJP, and now has gubernatorial experience, having served as governor of Bihar.

2.Quintessentially (adverb)
Meaning: used to emphasize the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class.
Example: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pick for President has been quintessentially political. He already had mustered sufficient numbers, tying up support from regional parties with the kind of carrot-and-stick combination that the leader of the ruling party at the Centre is in a position to deploy.

3.Astute (adjective)
Meaning: having or showing an ability to accurately assess situations or people and turn this to one's advantage.
Synonyms: shrewd, sharp, sharp-witted, razor-sharp, acute, quick, quick-witted, ingenious, clever, intelligent, bright, brilliant, smart, canny, media-savvy, intuitive, discerning, perceptive.
Example: The charade of consultation with the Opposition, as an astute Opposition leader put it, was meant to elicit unilateral cooperation rather than arrive at a consensus candidate.

4.Decimate (verb)

6.Alienation (noun)

Synonyms: isolation, detachment, estrangement, distance, separation, severance, parting, division, divorce, cutting off, turning away, withdrawal;
Example: But, on the whole, there could be no better advertisement of the party’s alienation from the people than having to depend on civil society intermediaries to identify what troubles the people whom the party seeks to represent.

Meaning: strengthen or support (an object or substance), especially with additional material., strengthen (an existing feeling, idea, or habit).
Synonyms: strengthen, fortify, bolster up, shore up, buttress, prop up, underpin, brace, stiffen.
Example: Of course, the tale of Steve Jobs’ legendary return to a flailing Apple that he had co-founded and had been ejected from, to make it into a powerhouse of technology, design and consumer delight that would eventually become the world’s most valuable company, serves to reinforce the narrative of companies being closely attached to its founding leadership. But that, we must realise, was an exception, not the rule.

8.Exuberant (adjective)

Synonyms: ebullient, buoyant, cheerful, sunny, breezy, jaunty, light-hearted, in high spirits, high-spirited, exhilarated, excited, elated, exultant, euphoric, joyful, cheery, merry, jubilant.
Example: We exuberant Indians always have some tamasha going on that boggles the best of minds. Such as, why do Bollywood’s bodybuilders take on but invariably lose to Baba Ramdev in yoga contests? Is the Dalit-versus-Dalit presidential dangal worth betting on? Why do Congresswalas wrestle with their critics, pitting declared Emergency against “undeclared Emergency”?

9.Reiterate (verb)

Example: The few liberal commentators left standing after the saffron tsunami has swept India bemoan the fact that there is no formal Opposition worth the name to stymie the sangh parivar’s strategy of uprooting India from its constitutionally entrenched secular and pluralist foundations and turning it into an exclusivist Hindu Rashtra, with little or no place in it for minorities, particularly the Muslims.
