Dear Students, SSC CGL 2017 Exam will be conducted from 1st August to 20 August 2017. Not much time left for the preparation. Sometimes in SSC CGL, vocab related questions are repeated, so you need to revise all the vocab notes at ssc adda and previous years vocab. For vocabulary related questions, you need to read a lot and memorize the words so that you can answer all the questions based on vocab. Your reading habit can make all the difference. If you are not able to read a newspaper for SSC Exam, here we are providing vocab words based on the Hindu newspaper editorial.

1.Annuity (noun)
Meaning: a fixed sum of money paid to someone each year, typically for the rest of their life.
Example: The market for annuities is underdeveloped and offers little choice. Letting these subscribers stay invested even after retirement is an option, with the flexibility to invest in a capital asset of their choice at a time of their choice.

2.lump sum (noun)
Meaning: a single payment made at a particular time, as opposed to a number of smaller payments or instalments.
Synonyms: round sum
Example: The market for reverse mortgages, which allow homeowners to exchange their home’s equity for a lump sum or a stream of income in retirement, must also take off.

3.Bolster (verb)
Meaning: support or strengthen.
Synonyms: strengthen, support, reinforce, make stronger, fortify, give a boost to.
Example: The good news bolstering confidence is the ruling party’s overwhelming victory in the Uttar Pradesh polls and the successful roll-out of the goods and services tax. These reinforce the long-term positive outlook: the government has lots of political capital and has the will to carry out significant reform.

4.Ridiculous (adjective)
Meaning: deserving or inviting derision or mockery; absurd.
Synonyms: laughable, absurd, comical, funny, hilarious, humorous, risible, derisory, droll, amusing, entertaining, diverting, chucklesome, farcical, slapstick, silly, facetious, ludicrous.
Example: It’s often the case that when a senior politician ridicules concerns about a policy or programme, you know it is really running into trouble.

5.Mandate (noun)
Meaning: an official order or commission to do something.
Synonyms: instruction, directive, direction, decree, command, order, injunction, edict, charge, commission, bidding, warrant, ruling, ordinance, law.
Example: With the loss of seats, and rise of Labour putting this mandate in question, many asked whether the party would be forced to soften its stance on a number of key issues, particularly given its alliance with the Democratic Unionist Party in Northern Ireland, which had made the issue of the open border between the two Irelands all the more important to solve.

6.Referendum (noun)
Meaning: a general vote by the electorate on a single political question which has been referred to them for a direct decision.
Synonyms: public vote, plebiscite, popular vote, ballot, poll.
Example: There are a number of reasons why those questions have persisted since. Firstly, the practical issues around Brexit — and the interpretation of the “will of the people” vis-à-vis the referendum — seem to be burgeoning rapidly, highlighted by an ongoing controversy over Britain’s membership of the European nuclear industry regulator, Euratom.

7.Repercussion (noun)
Meaning: an unintended consequence of an event or action, especially an unwelcome one.
Synonyms: consequence, result, effect, outcome.
Example: These issues arise at a time when economic conditions have toughened, factors Brexiteers say are unrelated to the exiting process, but which critics say were just some of the repercussions they had warned about all along.

8.Anecdotal (adjective)
Meaning: (of an account) not necessarily true or reliable, because based on personal accounts rather than facts or research., characterized by or fond of telling anecdotes.
Synonyms: informal, unreliable, based on hearsay; unscientific
Example: Anecdotal evidence has also suggested that concerns about Brexit have finally begun to hit investment into the country, while EU workers in areas such as health have begun to leave the country, creating potential skills shortages.

9.Abrupt (adjective)
Meaning: sudden and unexpected.
Synonyms: sudden, immediate, instantaneous, hurried, hasty, quick, swift, rapid, speedy, precipitate.
Example: On Wednesday, the ratings agency Moody’s warned that it was “unclear” whether the government would be able to deliver a “reasonably good outcome” in its negotiations with Europe, warning that the likelihood of an abrupt exit with no agreement and reversion to WTO trading rules had increased.

10.Purport (verb)
Meaning: appear to be or do something, especially falsely.
Synonyms: claim, lay claim, profess, pretend.
Example: With just twenty months to go till Britain is meant to leave the union, with the purported mission of “taking back control” of borders, laws, and trade, it’s potentially more of a time bomb.
