Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is now turned into “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj”
Mumbai’s iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station has been rechristened with addition of an honorific ‘Maharaj’ after ‘Shivaji’ to its earlier name. The British-era landmark was called Victoria Terminus before it was named after the Maratha warrior king in1996. The Central Railway (CR) issued a notification to this effect on June 27.

PM Modi to address CA day celebrations of ICAI today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend 68th Chartered Accountants Day function and GST event in New Delhi today. Finance Minister Arun Jaitly and Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia will also attend the event. The national professional accounting body of India, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India - ICAI celebrates its Foundation Day as the Chartered Accountants’ Day on 1 July every year. It was established on 1949 as a body corporate under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 enacted by the Parliament to regulate the profession of Chartered Accountancy in India. ICAI is the second largest professional Accounting and Finance body in the world in terms of membership.

Russia extends ban on Western food imports for another 18 months
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to extend a ban on Western food imports for another 18 months after the European Union extended economic sanctions against Russia. Putin’s office published a decree on Friday that keeps the food ban in place until December 31, 2018.

India has contributed $500,000 to the UN Peacebuilding Fund
India has contributed $500,000 to the UN Peacebuilding Fund, expressing hope that more funding by nations will boost efforts by the world body to build and sustain peace. India has been a member of the Peacebuilding Commission since its inception in December 2005 and has so far contributed $5 million to the Peacebuilding Fund. The fresh contribution of $500,000 to the fund will be affected over the coming days. The fund was launched to support activities, actions, programmes and organisations that seek to build a lasting peace in countries emerging from conflict.

The government has lowered interest rate on small saving schemes by 0.1 per cent for the July- September quarter
The governmenthas lowered interest rate on small saving schemes by 0.1 per cent for the July- September quarter. The move will prompt banks to lower deposit rates. The rates of small saving schemes like PPF, Kisan Vikas Patra and Sukanya Samriddhi have been lowered across the board compared to the April-June quarter. Since April last year, interest rates of all small saving schemes have been recalibrated on a quarterly basis. According to finance ministry notification, investments in the public provident fund (PPF) scheme will fetch lower annual rate of 7.8 percent. Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) investments will yield 7.5 per cent and mature in 115 months. The one for girl child savings, Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme, will offer 8.3 percent annually, from 8.4 per cent at present. The investment on 5-year Senior Citizens Savings Scheme will yield 8.3 per cent.
2 Indian-Americans to be honoured with Great Immigrants award
Two Indian-Americans, Adobe Chief Shantanu Narayen and former US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy are among 38 immigrants to be honoured this year for their role in helping advance the country's society, culture and economy. Narayen and Murthy will be honoured with the prestigious 'Great Immigrants' annual award on US's Independence day on Tuesday.

S.N. Subrahmanyan takes charge as the CEO and MD of Larsen & Toubro from Saturday, marking the end of an almost two-decade-long tenure of A.M. Naik at the helm. The appointment was approved by the board in April and marks a major change in leadership at L&T, where Naik served for more than 52 years, including as head for 17 years, said a statement. Subrahmanyan is currently the deputy managing director and president of L&T.

US President Donald Trump has nominated Krishna R. Urs to be the ambassador to Peru, the White House announced. The appointment of Urs, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, would have to be approved by the Senate. He is currently Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Madrid. Urs took over after James Costos, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama, resigned. Urs, a 30-year veteran of the Foreign Service was earlier the Deputy Chief of Mission in Spain.

Agreement between BHEL and KHI (Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd) for manufacturing coaches for metro trains
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has entered into a technology collaboration agreement with Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd (KHI) of Japan for manufacturing of stainless steel coaches and bogies for metros. The agreement covers establishing design, engineering and manufacturing facilities at BHEL using Japanese technology. It will also entitle BHEL for all technological advances and upgrades.
