15486 * 4 – 8 = 61936 ….

Direction (26-30): In each of these questions, two equations I & II are given. You have to solve both the equations and given answer:
A) If X > Y
B) If X < Y
C) If X ≥ Y
D) If X ≤ Y
E) If X = Y or cannot be established

26). I. x² + x – 20 = 0, II. y² – 13y + 40 = 0

26). Answer: b)
x² + x – 20 = 0
(x+5)(x-4) = 0
x = -5, 4
y² – 13y + 40 = 0
(y-5)(y-8) = 0
y = 5, 8
Hence, x < y
27). I. x² – 11x + 24 = 0, II. y² + 9y + 18 = 0
27). Answer: a)
x² – 11x + 24 = 0
(x-3)(x-8) = 0
x = 3, 8
y² + 9y + 18 = 0
(y+3)(y+6) = 0
y = -3, -6
Hence, x > y
28). I. 3x² + 8x + 5 = 0, II. 2y² + y – 1 = 0
28). Answer: d)
3x² + 8x + 5 = 0
3x² + 3x + 5x + 5 = 0
x = -1, -5/3
2y² + y – 1 = 0
2y² + 2y – y -1 = 0
y = -1, 1/2
Therefore y ≥ x
29). I. 3x + 2y = 16, II. 2x+ 3y = 33/2
29). Answer: b)
x = 3, y = 3.5
Therefore, x < y
30). I. 2x² – 9x + 4 = 0, II. 2y² + 7y – 4 = 0
30). Answer: c)
2x² – 9x + 4 = 0
2x² – 8x – x + 4 = 0
x = 4 , 1/2
2y² + 7y – 4 = 0
2y² + 8y – y – 4 = 0
y = -4, 1/2
Therefore, y ≤ x
